Toronto. I just called Easycell Cell Phone Rentals 416-780-1333
who said he would rent me one for $60 for 1.5 weeks. If I don't find anything cheaper I'll just do that.

I called Bell to explore hooking up a house to internet for $40 a month and they said that you are able to suspend the service for up to six months but you have to pay $10 a month during that time and you must resume service after the 6 month 'vacation. I wonder what would happen if I cancel after a month, then resign up 6 months later for a month etc...
dont know about Toronto

All numbers pro-rated.

Verizon:
A 4 minute phone call and I was set up with a plan that would automatically revert to my old plan without having to call back in.
They switched my add-a-line plan to it's own Canada plan that included 44 minutes of daytime calling and unlimited nighttime for $1.50 for 3 days.
They changed my texting plan to one that included 129 texts for 97 cents for 3 days.
They changed my data plan to one that included 10MB for $1.89 for 3 days plus $25 for an extra 100MB.

Cost for 25 minutes daytime+25 minutes nighttime+50MB data+50 texts=$29.36

The nice thing about VZW was that everything went back automatically, including my unlimited grandfathered data, and the bill didn't get messed up at all.
With Sprint I'd still be fighting a month later about the bill and my old plan.
I just called Verizon.  I am going to Toronto for a week and a half.
1. They added a family shared plan for me and my wife that adds 1000 mins in Canada for $15 for a month.
2. They added 100 MB of data per line for $25 for each line
3. They said texting will be 20 cents per text.

I opted to pay the full 15 dollars and the full 25 dollars for the mins and data so that I receive the full 1000 mins and the full 100mb of data.  I asked them if there was a texting plan and they said there is not, it is just a flat 20 cents per text.  Am I doing something wrong?  Why are they telling me there is no textin plan?

As is Verizon, I believe

Do you have a share everything plan or an older plan?

I believe its called the Family Shared Data.  Its the new plan with unlimited calling and texting and you pay for data per gb.

No, free both ways.
There is a charge on the old plans if you change it to a Canada plan unless you add a texting package, but they've simplified things with the share everything plans.

Is that even though they added the 1000 canada minutes and the 25mb of data?  Is that not considered changing the plan?

Assuming they will be adding the plan the day you arrive and taking it off automatically when you leave...

That 100MB of data will be prorated, so if you're there for 10 days you'll actually only get 33MB for $8.33.
If you exceed 33MB you'll be charged $25 and that covers the next 100MB, etc.

That data plan is good worldwide.

Same goes for the 1,000 minutes.  Really it will be 333 minutes for $5.  Unless you actually have them leave it on your plan for a longer period of time.

I asked them to do it for a full month and I will pay the extra so I don't run into that problem.

I'm a little confused; hope someone can clarify.

44 minutes was pro-rated, 3 days of a 450 minute plan.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=planFirst&action=viewPlanList&catId=930
The link posted to the Nationwide plus Canada plans show rate of 450 min for $60 so prorated it should be 1.50 per day at 15 min per day. Correct?

The 2nd option seems much cheaper. For a ten day trip you would get 333 min for $5 VS. $15 for 150 min. Am I missing something? With option B do you get free night? Can you get only the calling not the Data plan?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.
