The original (circa 7-8 years ago) TDAmeritrade software could give you a seizure
I loved how customizable the TD app was. I was able to get see all the info I wanted.

I use Schwab … 9 years (and MS but it’s not my “trading account” just long term holds).  I transferred an IRA to Schwab last week and spoke with my rep and he indicated they’re upgrading their trading platform soon due to the merger with TD.  He seemed excited about it and said I’d really like it.  (I’m an active trader …mostly options while also a long term investor).  Haven’t experience the TD platform …sounds like it’s a lot better than Schwab so excited for the rollout.
Schwab is terrible, for technical as well as fundamentals, Let's see if the upgrade will be good

Why? I don't do so much trading, but I find them easy to use...

Same. I was even happier before, with the old interface and tickets. But other than the app-ifyzation of what was previously a good desktop UI, the actual service is very good

I had a put expire on Friday.  B”H the stock took a dip on Friday, so I was loosing less than I thought I would.  In the past, at the close, the brokerage house would (from my point of view) just make the calculations and I would have the profit or loss as a transaction.
(ie  The strike price of the put is 20. The stock closes at 15. I get $5. )
Schwab actually had my account SELL the stock! So I was now holding a short stock. That may have been my mistake, although Scottrade, Ally, and TD never did that.
The part that is unmistakably Schwab’s fault is that I couldn’t find the transaction listed until after close on Tuesday. I didn’t realize I was holding short stocks. And by then the stock had gone up again. Increasing my loses to buy to close out.

If I were you I would contact their customer service. They might make you whole.

I called.  I didn’t ask for that. But the rep I spoke to was going to send me to someone more senior to explain it to me.  I told her I know exactly what happened and I was angry at their policy and disgusted at their unclear platform.  And got off the phone.

Call back to complain and ask to be made whole.

I will tell you that IME it's easier/faster to reach a human at Schwab than at Fidelity.

As I said, every online broker has its pros and cons.

I've also found them very helpful, and easy to get ahold of.

For me, one of their disadvantages is that the sweep account has a low interest rate.

It is a disadvantage compared to Fidelity, but unless you are an active trader, just keep cash in their Money Market fund, and sell as needed.

Correct, there are workarounds, it just means extra steps. Not a deal-killer, just a disadvantage.
