I do not have an etrade account, I use Schwab. I checked the Tip ranks site +332.9 % total return since 2016. I checked the motley fool stock advisor site +915.27% total return since 2002 so they definitely seem to have more xp. Now how does the motley fool statistically not beat the market avg? I am assuming you mean the S&P 500.
I was not talking to you, as you clearly like the motley fool, which is fine. Gutlib seemed like he just wanted a few ideas, in which case he would not match the returns of either.

I did say earlier that I do not have data to back up my claim.

But if you are willing to be honest, I would love to know, did you make that much? Did anyone you know make that much? I highly doubt anyone buys their entire portfolio consistently, to even be able to say if it's accurate.

Regardless, read a little bit about stock pickers, and you will be sceptical as well. Bogle, Kahanemen and Taleb.

I wish you much success in your investing, whichever path you take.

+1 How is this not a problem? Their business is to sell subscriptions of their stock picker service if I would tell everyone their recommendations most wouldn't bother subscribing. If someone gives a course on a subject and charges a thousand dollars and I go and then open my own course on same subject which out of the goodness of my heart I give for free, is that right? +1I do not have an etrade account, I use Schwab. the motely fool statistics that you quoted include their pick of NVDA which was a long time ago but went up something like 30,000%. this outlier inflates their total gains. now technically they did acheinve high gains and they should talke credit for finding NVDA. but the l the likelihood of it happening again is probably slim. that being said i have had the motely fool for a year and did pretty well with some of there picks (i dont only invest in their picks and i didnt invest in all of their picks).  Good luck!

So if you take out NVDA from the equation, how much are the gains?

In 2021 I had a free subscription to The Motley Fool. I bought $25 of almost every stock they picked that year and from their list of the top 5/10 stocks.
Since then total stock value has gone up 12.3% in that account. (This is NOT including any dividends or distributions)
One of the recommendations that year was NVDA. It's up 933.04% since then.

How did the remainder do? How many total stocks did you buy?
Unless this is annualized these returns seemed to have underperformed the market by quite a bit even with NVDA included.

That's exactly my point. So far NVDA carried the entire portfolio.
I bought around 45 stocks. Several stocks they mentioned more than once so I did buy some more of those.
I'm planning on holding this account for 5 years to see how it compares. TMF always push for holding their picks for 5 or more to see good returns.

According to ChatGPT with all 45 stocks weighted equally this comes out to about a 10% loss on the remainder of the portfolio.

You mean that instead of a 12% gain it’s a 12% loss? That’s big

Thats how venture capital works.  they hope for 5-10% win, but those wins should be huge

but following a blog for stock picks, that should be the expectation.

I can assure you that this is not the expectation of MF followers and not how MF markets their services.

+1

I would bet that the total number of accredited investors following Motley Fool is a grand total of... zero
