Actually didn't check but it's up to when I posted. It's hard but I'm betting on it. Not a lot though
Last day of a year which was very positive in the stock market, it's possible for it to go up 1% and cross 20K

Isn't it worth to pay the $10 or whatever the commission is so you can write-off your losses correctly?
I believe he was agreeing with that, and adding that the commission is considered towards the loss as well.

Holy moly! just went through 30 minutes of financial hell when I realized I mistakenly sold a position last week with the tax strategy set on FIFO instead of MinTax... It would've resulted in a tax bracket change and a huge tax bill.

Scottrade was super helpful and changed the sale to a Minimum Tax sale even though the sale was already settled.

Moral of the story stop whatever you're doing and go double check your realized gain/loss sheet before it's too late..

It needs more then just to go up  1%, its a psychological number as well.

Is SHLD a buy?

Something funny is going on. Lampert is running Sears into the ground, while his hedge fund keeps lending Sears more money. Real estate play?

When Lampert first got into Sears (and then KMart) he was hailed as a genius for the Real Estate play.

Obviously that was before 2008 came along.

I just caught the tail end (literally last sentence) of a Bloomberg radio piece where someone was discussing SHLD, and he said something about Lampert doing something right to extract value. I can't comment on anything as I didn't hear the full piece, but if someone finds it posted online would be interesting to listen to.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

What's your thoughts?  Any reason it would make a move?

more based on watching the stock and seeing how crowded the stores have been. consensus estimates is 11.99 price target right now. low estimate is $7 and high estimate is $18. seems like if they hit/beat earnings the upside is higher than the downside. If they miss downside from where it is isn't so bad (assuming bankruptcy isn't back on the table)

the stock has had some nice swings both ways also with right now being on the low end of the last year so it wouldn't surprise me to see it up 20% before earnings.

In that same Bloomberg piece I heard yesterday, they went on to speak about JCP and the guest who specializes in retail had lots of praise for JCP management.

Not always does the stock price or movement reflect the quality of the company (in the short term, and longer term both can change).

There's about one million of them, you will have to sift through them to find one that fits your style.
