What effect do you think it would have on EXC if they sell or spin off Constellation? Who are potential buyers? XOM?

Shorting the VIX (which is kind of a derivative itself) is a strategy that should only be employed by real pros. My guess is that anyone asking here (and I'm not being condescending at all) shouldn't act on such a strategy. (been there, done that - not exactly, but dabbled with taking positions based on where I strongly thought VIX was going)
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I might agree with you. but I still would like an answer to the question.

To short the VIX buy put options or sell call options.

Yesterday was a crazy day because all the US bitcoin exchanges were down. Gemini, Coinbase, Gdax.... not clear if it was coordinated DDOS attacks or if it was an honest to goodness spike in volume that knocked them all out (I believe DDOS) but anyone who had accounts on those exchanges was locked out and there was quite a bit of panic.

[My conspiracy theory is that its all too convenient that this happened on the day that bitflex launched. After Mt. Gox I am automatically suspicious of Japanese digital exchanges]
I'm an optimist; but only because life isn't going to give me any other good choices.

Liked. A colleague of mine keeps repeating this mantra as well, both in reference to BTC and to the stock market. TBH, we really don't have any sense for what level is overvalued for BTC while we do have a sense that the stock market is overvalued (based on P/E ratios and other common metrics), so I would much sooner short the stock market than BTC, but even then I come back to your mantra

Puts have a limited loss potential.

Fill in the blank.

Knowing the market is overvalued that should be just as valuable as knowing the market is undervalued.

When one knows it is undervalued they buy equity. When one knows its overvalued they buy______________.
