To all the guru's. Anyone calling a top this month?
Thinking you can call a top or bottom of a market disqualifies you from the title of guru.

Maybe that is why no guru's answered?  :)

As hard as it is to resist things on your own, it's so much harder when you feel a duty to explain and warn others, especially if they are young enough to have no real memory (as in a personal portfolio that suffered losses) to remember.

Intellectually they will say, OK, so it crashed, took a while to come back, then 2008 came, and look what happened since. Everything will come back and be higher. They find it hard to Internalize that starting point makes a huge difference, that certain times when liquidating assets are beyond your control, etc. etc.

One of my favorite articles on the topic is Richard Russell's a"h Rich Man Poor Man (search Google, it's been published in several places, though only a few of them have the full version.
Excellent article by Richard Russell, thanks for posting it .

It is one of 12 excellent pieces which John Mauldin put together in his book (actually a compilation) Just One Thing. Recommended read.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Still holding your short?
Yes I am still short, the USD got stronger against all currencies in the last 3 days due to talk about higher interest rates, that is what also tanked the market, I still can't tell if the USD reversed or is just retracing part of the down move, soon it'll be clearer, I placed a stop at 8.155, still profitable for me if it gets hit.  Make sure you place a stop and stick to it, do not let a profitable trade turn to a loss no matter what.

Any thoughts on Twitter's surge in response to  it's earnings? Would you sell or hold?

I would not have bought.

But I will tell what I am holding... VIX- because you should have known massive corrections would be coming.

And how exactly are you holding VIX?

VIX isn't really an asset, it is a derivative. And Exchange Traded products are derivatives of that derivative.

Caveat emptor.

Would you care to answer the question? How are you "holding" VIX?

I am unaware of any way to "hold" VIX. Though I am aware of products one can trade which are based on the VIX.

I’m long TWTR since Aug 2015, definitely not selling now that it’s finally starting to perform, might even add more if the broad market pulls it down a bit more like it did today.

Some shameless credit taking here!
Roughly 6 months ago (on Aug 18 2017 to be exact) we (@jungarmtl, @ExGingi and yours truly) had a discussion on whether to buy baba or amzn after it dipped 10% at the time,
(The discussion started here if you’re interested:
if it's for long term i would say $BABA stock is a long term potential growing stock
AMZN embodies the entire BABA model and then some. Their cloud business itself is a huge growth potential. So if you see growth potential in BABA (which I understand, but am super skeptical, I mean it's China after all, Mr. Ma could just disappear one day!) I'd rather buy AMZN at this recent 10% dip even with its ridiculous P/E ratio which is a non factor at the rate Bezos is reinvesting.
Well, fast forward 6 months, amzn wildly outperformed baba by some 30%

point being, amzn has now dipped again I think it’s a major opportunity to buy it you’ll thank me in 6 months

I dont know why you had to wait for the dip to get this major opportunuity when on Jan 18-3 weeks ago you could of bought it for the same price. and if than the underlyings didnt push you to buy it than, what exactly changed in this 3 weeks....?

And 5 years ago it was a quarter of the price.... Point is its been steady growth all along, and we can assume it'll continue, a week ago it would have been smart to buy to, but now it's on sale.

They reported a blowout earnings report during this 3 week period..
