As far as the high flying/big cap tech stocks are concerned, in my opinion for the long term:

GOOG and AAPL are screaming buys here (low downside high upside, but may take time, especially AAPL)

AMZN, NFLX, FB, NVDA, CRM I wouldn’t touch (too much downside still possible)

MSFT neutral (low upside low downside)

Is there anyone who can explain this trade to me?  Is it an option assignment?

You can see after 4:00 the spread gets really wide because the number of bids/asks dramatically decreases. That trade struck on the ask side. Not sure why traders would buy so high or sell so low after hours.
If you don't care why would you comment?

That's my question. Looks like the buyer took a 50k hit for nothing. I found this because I'm holding 500 shares and suddenly my account is up 17k after hours.

Big movement on small volume after hours is meaningless.

Why do you believe that’s an options assignment? The ask hit it a number of times around that execution and an assignment shouldn’t impact bid/ask

Interesting saw this yesterday as well someone bought 5400 shares of a certain stock (under $5) after hours at a 50% premium to close and dumped them 1 minute later at the original closing price. Assumed it was either a fat finger or was an algorithm gone wrong. There wasn’t any other material AH trades.

Are you sure you're using the correct term? Are you investing in something you understand, and know how to value?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I guess I can rephrase. Thinking about gambling $1000 or $1500 by buying mutual funds with the intention of holding long term I am not so knowledgeable About the market but my belief/gamble is that long-term a fund will increase in value. I realize should not matter when I buy if this is true but still feels better to buy when the market down even if it may continue to fall
