imo, holding through earnings is akin to gambling. All relevant info is already baked into stock price.

I'd be worried after stock is sky high that even a slight earnings miss or outlook revision would make it all come tumbling.

I still won't sell though. My strategy is basically buy and hold and hold.

I don't understand you.  No fund, stock or etf is gt'd to do anything tomorrow.  My question is very simple.  Compare a top-tier (based on returns) large stock fund with a S&P 500 ETF.  Look at the the 1, 3, and 5 year returns.  Which one has the higher return--the ETF or fund?  Yes, the ETF fund is cheaper and MAY have better tax treatment, but at what cost?
Interesting interview with Howard Marks of Oakmark on Bloomberg.com today discussing his most recent memo titled "I Bet". Memo is available at: https://www.oaktreecapital.com/docs/default-source/memos/you-bet.pdf
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

great strategy as long as you don't panic sell. And as long as your not selling after earnings.

Shorting at these levels, is a rational thing to do.

The buyers at these levels are irrational.

Never fight irrationality with rationality.

Definitely a long term hold.
However, I just sold with 65+% gain and will re-buy on the next dip.

That sounds like a real long term hold  ;)

Just read the memo . Full of gems. Would recommend to anyone interested in investing (of any sort, not just the stock market).

Sold about 1/3 of tsla holdings at 590. Weird, now I'm not sure if I want it to go up or down.

Hi all.

I do not know more than the very basics regarding stocks/funds/etfs, etc. For tax purposes I opened and funded a solo 401K. I am looking to split the money between 2-4 stocks/funds/etfs etc. and let it sit for the next 30 years.

I am willing to take moderate risk in exchange for growth.

Looking for some picks.

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Shorted @ 587.50  (Bought a Jan 31 Put)
I was looking at Puts, the premiums are very expensive. What strike price did you buy?
