Can someone explain me why Amazon and Walmart are at a record high? During this crisis?? I understand they make good business these days by selling essentials, but how much more are they losing by not selling non essentials? When people are staying home people spend less on other things, couple that with a tanking economy when people have less money to spend. When is their quarter numbers being released?
More people are buying from online retailers Amazon being the largest.

Amazon is much more than just selling household goods.

There's going to be consolidation in the retail industry as struggling retailers fold, and the biggest players with robust online operations and logistics and deep balance sheets stand to gain when the dust settles and the survivors get to increase their market share.

Walmart is absorbing ( non essential ) sales from all the non essential stores that are not allowed to be open.

How do you view Macy's in that regard? One of my most watched stocks.

Totally unrelated to stocks, but the CFO of my company (a major mutual, ie non-traded life insurance company) held a call early this month to talk COVID impact, and one of his big points was that because our financial position is so strong, we'll be in great shape when other less well positioned companies have to sell off premium assets at a discount.

They need to not allow WM to sell them.

Didn't someone post a picture from a WM having a section closed off due to being non-essentials?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Not sure but some states are making all stores do that.

So what's everyone view of physical gold? Paper gold is to risky at the moment.

Of course it will, question is when :)

The more countries print cash the higher gold will go.
I think a realistic # to hit in the next 3 months is $1820-$1860

Why is paper more risky than physical?

Recently there has been a big disconnect between physical gold and paper gold. Some days it has been as high as $100 an ounce. This last week it has been getting back to normal. Not sure why as I only deal in physical gold.

If you look at it as a gamble then hold for homerun.

That's what I'm thinking, I'm only in on osur  to begin with for the gamble. But I'm up nearly 200% already.

This is how gambles work. You only need one homerun to make up for many outs.
