My understanding was that he thinks it is corrupt for public officials to profit from companies they can influence and are privy to exclusive material information.

I don't know, but I think his issue was with the macro influence and knoweldge of the broader stock market via stimulus / taxes / regulation etc.

I may be mistaken but in Israel I believe politicians are required to place their investments in blind trusts (of course they are way more corrupt there)

Insider trading used to be legal for senators and reps but became illegal recently. However, they continue to do insider trading without consequence. Most people looking at that slate of buys will assume insider trading and be angry about it.

Perception is reality so it would really help if elected officials were required to pre-schedule trades like the SEC requires executives to do. Problem is that by doing so we would all be able to copy their moves

AFAIK they're still allowed to trade on exclusive information relating to politics that can affect a stock.

Thanks PG, you pretty summed up my issues with Pelosi’s Tesla bet.

It bothers me that people in positions of power and influence can throw their money around with such speculative investments. It makes them biased in the interests of their money rather than in the interests of the American people.

Don’t ask me what the ideal system looks like, it’s possible that this is the least evil of all political systems, but it still has major flaws.
