Wow, the whole market tanked over the past few weeks. Now is when I should be playing options big time.

Any decent investors to follow in regards to options? Even if I have to pay a few $ to follow?

Thankfully likes are still coming, though not as fast as usual either. I may have to mellow on my fandom to Abie Rotenberg if my kids start getting hungry...

If your shooting in the dark or read their earnings report, sure buy the dip otherwise I’d wait for some resistance and positive moves

Heres a piece of advice: never follow anyone, make moves that you yourself understand and believe in.

Many of the big (tech) names have lately been swinging wildly in either direction after earnings. I guess it can be understood a bit; a miss (think NFLX, PYPL, FB) reminds investors that higher rates are coming and it can only get worse. A beat (GOOGL, AMD, AMZN, SNAP) makes them think things are not so bad after all, and this company can manage even in a higher rate environment.

But it just boggles the mind how fickle equity investors are. The whole miss and beat is totaly arbitrary, as the expectations are based on the companys own projections. What is stopping a company from setting the bar low, only to come out and 'beat' expectations and have the stock soar?

Aren’t there also analyst projections that they beat/meet/miss?

It seems that in many, if not most instances, corporate is giving the analysts the raw data for them to formulate the projections.  That's why the whole process seems so skewed...

You can’t have the cake and eat it. If they’re giving them the data it should be on the mark, if they’re beating it then they aren’t quite giving them the data. Unless you’re suggesting they intentionally give them data that adds up to less than what they actually expect, that would be fraud.

I wouldn't call it fraud- they may be giving numbers projecting future sales, which are not certain. They can guesstimate numbers on the lower end so that the expectation is low. All I'm saying is that beating or missing projected earnings is just hype. However, real growth YoY would be a more real metric

With blood in the water investors are seeking safe harbors, that’s why you see such big swings. earnings are also based on other market environments and when a company beats it’s own expectation from previous quarter to massive growth the street celebrates

Analysts are relying on more than just company released data, or at least deciding how to interpret it based on other things they know/assume. They certainly aren’t just taking company projections and parroting them back. If you look at the spread of projections by analysts on the street for one company’s earnings, you’ll see it can be a pretty wide range.

Whatever is "expected" is baked into the price. If a company beats leaving investors to believe the future trajectory is better than anticipated, that will push the price up.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
