I was thinking of buying back some BLUE. Should I do it today, or should I wait a little?

To get credit for the full value of the donation, yes. But FWIU, for assets held for less than a year you only get the tax deduction of the cost basis, but you still don't have to pay taxes on it.

So if that's the only issue, I'll take the lower tax deduction, but save on the taxes, and have the money ready to donate since I'm giving the money to charity anyway.

And the advantage is that if the stock loses, I can count the losses, which is a significant factor for this kind of trading, I'd think.

General question - what is the best way (in regards to taxes) to sell/get rid of an appreciated MLP?

Bought CLMT in 2020 and 2021.

Thanks ckmk47!

600 shares, but at $3, sold at $6.10.

Roth IRA, but now I'm reconsidering - perhaps I should be doing this trading in my regular account, that way I can count losses, and if it goes up I can just transfer it to a DAF...but that might not be as quick a trade as a regular sell order.

Thoughts, anyone?
You're welcome!

These are short term capital gains.  Taxes in a regular account are awful. IRA is much better. DAF would work too.  You should find out if they're slower to trade. And report back. :D

A Donor-Advised Fund allows you to transfer an appreciated asset (e.g., a stock that has gone up significantly in price) directly to the fund, which is considered a charity. As such, you do not pay taxes on the appreciation, and if you've had the stock for over a year you get a tax deduction for the full current value.

Once it's in the fund, you can then decide which charity to give it to, and they send a check. You can also hold onto the money in the DAF and send it to your charity of choice later on.

This makes zero sense. You expect the economy to slow down for an extended period of time and the stock market to stay level? How does that work?

What’s hard to understand? He’s saying a mild recession is already priced in, valuation wise. Whether or not the market overreacts you will be getting a good deal.

simple. Stock valuations are now close to historic norms, so people will say all the bad news is 'priced in'. There just has to be some catalyst that convinces people to perceive it that way, and then the buying perpetuates itself.

I would take a guess that perhaps if the fed raises rates this week by 50 bps and not 75 like some expect, you will see a 'relief' rally, with the pundits spinning it that things are coming under control...

Assuming the recession we're about to see is a mild one. If it's closer to the predictions of a 70's style recession, then the market hasn't priced it in and you're not getting such a great deal.

+1, people are reading only half the quote:
“I think we’re pricing in a mild recession,” he responded. “I’m not saying how severe the recession actually will be.

There are lots of reasons why this recession could be a whopper
