Understand, just saying it's not necessarily popping solely because of a meme when it's still down significantly in the short term. A buybuy spinoff can easily pay off nicely. Short interest is also way too high again at over 100%.

HKD nothing to do with WSB

Notice that I didn't say anything about popping 64%, such a move in any direction without significant news isn't a sign of a well-functioning market.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Why would a spinoff make it worth that much more?

Because 2x0 is worth twice as much as 1x0.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

What if it isn't 0 but negative?

If buy buy is sold that would bring in a big dividend to shareholders. Right now Buy buy is a better business and perceived to have value. Bed bath’s problems such as cash flow drags buy buy down and they’re worth less together than the value of each separately.

Aside from that, each has a better chance of succeeding independently. The management will be split and able to focus on just their store, and without the challenges that the other brings.

Look at how L Brands spun off Victoria’s Secret from bath and body works. BBW was a great business and overall investors are way ahead after the spinoff. Even VS, the unwanted brand, is at a higher market cap than its proposed sale price that fell through.

If you say so. I asked how a spinoff can translate to such a difference and you only answer how it makes it worth more

Great but 64%?

It’s not 64%, it’s 40%.

If you say so. I asked how a spinoff can translate to such a difference and you only answer how it makes it worth more

You’re not clear. If you’re asking why it should be worth more 40% ‘today’, there’s no special reason, and this question was asked already. If you’re asking why a spin off would increase value, that’s something which was discussed before today, so it’s not like there was any news that made it pop. Hence my post about spin-offs was not specific to today.

Short interest is also way too high again at over 100%.

This is probably the biggest factor and cause for irrational moves.

BLUE. A new drug of theirs likely will be approved in 2 weeks. And a 2nd drug approved in 6 weeks. And then it’ll likely be bought out by a bigger firm.
But it’s had a strong recent rise, so we may have missed the big win.  But it’s not likely to drop much from here.
My favorite cause: cssy.org

Missed the win? You called this months ago. And it was mentioned last week.

My play, and I could be wrong.
A)I hope there’s enough excitement for BLUE that it will pop. I expect to sell out at the opening on Monday. It is unlikely to go higher that the initial excitement.

B)Because these are drugs for rare diseases, the FDA will give the company a certificate that it will fast track approval of a future drug. Such certificates have sold for $100 million.
BUT, this company isn’t in the financial position to produce and market these drugs.
So it will likely be bought out by a company able to produce these drugs that has it’s own drugs in the pipeline that it would be able to use the fast track certificates.
So, after I sell out, I’ll keep an eye on BLUE and possibly buy it back at a lower price than the pop and wait for the buyout.

This one

Could have bought  backfor ~$3 many times over the past few weeks

@Kosher_Cellutions Are you still holding your COTY shares or you think its time to sell?

I still own COTY as they will start giving out a divy in about a year. I also own about 300k shares in Sofi. Sofi in about 3-5 years will be a $100 stock.
