Not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not, but I can't think of where else I should ask (except maybe here) so here goes...

I'm trying to figure out which of my appreciated stocks to donate to my Donor Advised Fund.

Stock A - ~$10k in unrealized gains, ~336% gain, current value - ~$13k
Stock B - ~$10k in unrealized gains, ~87% gain, current value - ~$19.6k

Is there an advantage of donating one over the other (other than the obvious benefit of stock B giving me a bigger deduction)?

I feel like there should be something about the unrealized gains I'm giving up, but I can't wrap my head around exactly what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not an accountant, so wait for confirmation, but my first thought is that I would go with stock "A".
You aren't getting a greater advantage by donating stock "B", as both of their advantages are equal as far as the cap gains being avoided on 10k.
If you donated stock A plus 6k in cash, it would be the same outcome as donating stock B.
Alternatively if you wanted to exit the position of stock B anyways and wanted to load up that much into your DAF and not just 13k, then B would make sense.
Probably comes down to which position you want to close out more, and how much you want in your DAF.

1) Are both stocks held longer than a year?

2) Unless you want to donate more right now, the advantage of stock A is that a higher percentage of what you're donating would otherwise be taxable if you sold.

3) If you plan on re-buying, A has a greater free step-up in cost basis through this move, percentage-wise.

1) Yes, both are long-term
2 & 3) This is what I was thinking that I was missing.
Thanks.

Any buyers on TSLA? at $125 a share (375 pre last split) today, shares are down 18% this week alone. If this is just about Elon buying twitter, I think we see a healthy bounce up from these lows.

On the other hand, TSLA has been trading at such insane multiples that any lost luster in the eyes of the market can sink it even more.

Thoughts?

TSLA now trading at $537 (pre split). I seem to recall some comments on this thread kicking themselves for not buying in around 600....

Do we nibble at some now or stay away?

Personally I would wait till fed stops qt and rate hikes before investing in a growth stock.
seems to still be holding true :D

You will go broke trying to pick the bottom.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

My grandmother told me that there was once a OB/GYN doctor who was famous for having a reputation of having a very high rate of predicting the baby's gender correctly, before the days of sonograms. It was later discovered that he would always tell the parents one gender, but he would write the other one in his file. If his spoken prediction was wrong, he would show the parents his file and say that they must have misheard him when he said it, because his file clearly shows that he predicted correctly...

Thankfully, I didn't buy when that post went up, but I waited for it to drop, so I'm not too deep in the red from it, but can't wait for next month when it will double...

Since you said "high rate" and not 100%, I'm guessing you believe its a non-binary outcome

Accounts for when he missed multiples and there was more than one gender.
