Roaming on U.S. carriers
Verizon: $25 per each 100MB when Gobal Data feature is activated. Exorbitant calling rates.
AT&T:
T-Mobile: Simple Choice plans (postpaid-only which requires credit pull, but you can cancel anytime) include unlimited data roaming at 2G speeds in 120+ countries. Calls between any of these countries are $.20 /min.
Sprint: - For some reason its a bit complicated - https://www.sprint.com/landings/openworld/index.html - http://www.sprint.com/landings/international-value-roaming/ - http://support.sprint.com/global/pdf/support/BizMultiCountryDataPack.pdf

International SIM cards

Google Fi
All plans include coverage in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Unlimited Plus and Flexible also come with data in 200+ international destinations, and 5G in select countries for supported Pixel and Samsung phones. Try Fi for free: Test our coverage to see how we keep you connected. Our 7-day trial works right on your phone alongside your current service.

Toggle Mobile:
Covers the U.S., many European countries (though not Italy or Belgium), and Australia. Rates from these countries are £.03 to all USA and UK phones both mobile and landline, £.03 to landlines and £.09 to mobiles in many other countries, £.06 to Israel landlines and £.15 to Israel mobiles. SMS to most (looks like all) countries is £.07. Data bundles start at £5 for 500 MB in the UK and £20 for 1GB in the other Toggle countries. Incoming calls are free in 20+ countries.

SIMs can be ordered online and shipped free to many countries. You automatically receive a free permanent U.K. number. Before each trip you must register online for a local incoming number in the countries you are travelling to, which activates the roaming plan and lasts 30 days at no cost. You can pay £5 a year to keep numbers permanently.

Golan Telecom:
The 99₪ unlimited talk/text/internet/international calling plan, which also gives you up to 2 virtual foreign numbers, also includes for many countries (not all have launched yet) unlimited global data roaming (6GB high-speed), incoming calls & texts, and calls & texts to Israel.

Alternatively, Golan also offers a ₪29 per day data-only roaming plan which gives 100MB a day in these countries (all have been launched). These roaming options can be very useful for foreigners regardless of whether they need Golan for Israel.

VOIP calling apps

Vonage Mobile: Free calls to US/CA, very cheap int'l rates (see link). Uses your real number for outgoing caller ID, and also for incoming calls if you are a tmobile/AT&T customer and activate ReachMe roaming in the app.

Google Hangouts: Uses your Google Voice number over VOIP. Free calls to US/CA, very cheap int'l rates (see link).

Local SIM cards

Israel: See wiki on this thread.

Global MiFi
FreedomPop $10/500mb

eSims

See PlatinumGuys post for more info.

Perhaps this is common knowledge, but I was just mindblown. In 60 seconds online, I was able to buy a data package in a different country from Airalo and install it on my iPhone - keeping calls on the primary Verizon SIM and data on the Airalo eSim.

FWIW, they offer 15GB in Israel for $15 - and you can buy more easily online if it runs out, but I don't know which network Annatel resells

Airalo promo code FOUNDERS30 for 30% off up to $7 (I don't benefit in any way)

Another vendor is https://esim.knowroaming.com, I guess you have to compare destination to destination.
https://esimdb.com is a great database for vendors in different locations.

almost sure, but if you have the sim and get reception it should activate itself

That's not always the case.
Many operators want you to be in their country to activate.

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Anyone have a good SIM I can buy in the US to keep on hand for if I travel outside the US? I want to only get billed on the days I use it. [I am on a Verizon MVNO now and I can switch my sim for when I travel. NO ESIM please.]

Looking for international service/sim for England,France, Israel
and Italy. Mix of smartphones and flips.
I have Optimum sims with US numbers that we use in Israel, but no texting on the flip phones... Do those work in Europe?
Esims? UK sim? ( first stop)

My sister is leaving Cleveland for Israel on Monday. She does not do technology well, and confirmed with me that she cannot get an ESIM on her cell phone. How can she get cellular data in Israel? Should she just get a SIM card from the airport in Israel?
Thanks!

About 10 days. Does not need a lot of data. Mostly for just WhatsApp calls and directions.

This may have been discussed but worth mentioning again, seems to me not so well known.

If you fly through UK pick up a 3 sim and make at least 1 call or text to activate it while in UK. Has free data roaming in 70+ countries (including US, CA, Europe, EY, Mexico etc.) on a prepaid plan (called pay as you go) up to 12GB per month. The £10 a month plan gives you 10GB a month or 15GB when on auto pay (still capped by the roaming limit to 12 just 15 for if you’d be in UK). You need to officially pay for service at least every 6mo or will shit the sim (although I’ve gone over and reactivated with no consequences..) when entering a card number online to refill it might ask for a UK post code you can just put in any random one.

US Mobile unlimited premium plan gives free international roaming data up to 10gb. Call and text unlimited worldwide just like when you’re in the US. If you downgrade the plan or close it you can get a prorated refund @$2/gb used whether you used local or international data. If cancelled (or downgraded) within 7 days you can get a full refund. Available on the US Mobile GSM Network (T-mobile). You can switch to the T-Mobile from Verizon easily using their new self service feature. (Can be done right before you leave the country for this purpose, they’re ok with that and switch back after returning) I’ve used it recently and this method was great and smooth. Service was Amazing.

Down to 5gb only, after plan changes. I did get a FULL refund though, after being told I’d get a $36 refund due to using 7gb abroad and being billed @$2/gb. I used the line for about 12days before downgrading.

Also now a $2 charge per network change after your first 2 free (lifetime)
Is what you did better than the international add-on?

On the plan mentioned network change is free. Add on is $45 5gb 500 calls 500 texts, with no refund. plan above was 10gb/1000/1000 now 5gb/500/500 prorated/free. Which is better?

I am assuming that last part was rhetorical. A few days ago I chatted with US Mobile, and on the Warp 5g they were offering 45$ hold, and you pay based on what you use, 0.07 min, 0.05 per text. Not sure if anything actually changed there with them. For someone going for a short period, they may be better off with that instead of having to switch plans mid-cycle (or they are on a yearly plan and cantchange), than doing a whole change, in what may be the first day of their cycle, and then having to do the whole customer service refund thing... Not arguing with you, just trying to layout all the options here, especially for those that will probably forget or be too lazy to deal with it afterwards.
Note to those aforementioned people: Get off these forums you don't belong here!!

Not familiar with warp roaming which isn’t really rolled out yet, gsm is what I’m referring to. The refund with them is really easy IME. You also don’t have data on warp for many countries when it will roll out. So no data, and paying for talk and text per each. Less countries…. Add on gsm has never been per min/text just a full $15 or $45 add on.

I have a screenshot with the price being
First 2 requests will be free, all subsequent will be $0 each

Though now the page says:
“Did you know? US Mobile allows you to transfer your line between any of our networks so that you can get the best coverage, wherever you are. With Super Carrier Mode (premium plan), these network transfers are always free. Without Super Carrier Mode, your first two transfers (ever, not per cycle) are free, then $2 per transfer.”

This may be a better thread to post in, so sorry for my repost.

Anyone have a link from Amazon or alike to get a SIM card to use in Poland for a basic flip phone?

All I need is calling and or texting to the US from Poland.

Like all other phone line questions, US Mobile. Upgrade/Activate on the unlimited premium. If you cancel/downgrade within 7 days you get full refund (via chat) or you get billed $2 per gb used if after 7 days

Flying from Israel often and have tried almost everything, the 019 service is the easiest to use because you get it in the aiprot and I usually have at least 4 Hr notice before I fly.  ;)
Is there a permanent solution because 3 or other UK provider sim tend to expire quickly when not in use? I fly mainly to France, Switzerland and Uk (most important high to low: 1. 500 min. Calls to Israel or 500 incoming, 2. Data 3. within Europe.) I usually travel for 1 week at time.
The only rule when it comes to flying is that it is all UP IN THE AIR!
