I came figure out why some people who spend a lot of money on their lulav and esrog would be unwilling to spend the $5 to have nice arovos for the whole sukkos.
in some places it's a question of availability. Where I live there aren't aravos in shul every morning.

Not quite keeping it alive but putting the leaves into oil will keep the smell fresh for years. (especially if you follow prep directions similar to this https://articles.mercola.com/herbal-oils/myrtle-oil.aspx
no need to keep fresh. Every yr i take off the leaves and stick them in container, with a little crunching before sniffing they smell great!
So is it only the leaves that contain the fragrance? I feel like when I smell it now fresh, I pick up the scent more from the stem than the leaves.
