Expert Flyer Help
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:58:39 PM »
I'm having such a tought time looking through expert flyer for a star alliance reward ticket.  Under awards & upgrades, there are only a few airlines available to select through.

Do i have to go through the general availablity tool for paying fares? If so, what code are award flights avilable under next to each listed flight on *A?

Why not use ANA?

First of all, i did try contintenal.  Helped some.
Second of all, i did sign up for ANA and was given a membership number at the end of sign up...didnt write it down figuring theyd email me...which they didnt.  Tried to reverse browser and refresh...didnt work.

Called ANA and asked them to email/tell me my number...dumb security issues.  Wont allow it.
Cant get in till my card comes in a few weeks.

Plus i'm told EF is better than or at least equivalent to ANA (and just as free for the first 5 days).

So what codes am i looking for when checking availbility on *A flights...Ii'm still not good at working through all the class codes/letters.  How do you read it to understand if award availability is there?

BTW Dan- why you use 125,000 miles on your may first class flight to europe, if you couldve booked it through Aeroplan for 100,000 (based on todays post)?

EF is not equivalent to ANA, ANA searches far more airlines' award availability than EF does.

Just sign up for a new ANA account.

As for your other question, it was already answered in that thread...but feel free to ask again in that thread if you don't see it.

Co has a very bad (and funny) search for awards. stick to ANA, which has a good 90% correctness to it.

True, but CO does find more overall routings, although ANA still seems to be better.
Between the 2 of them it's pretty much all you need.  The real trick is just to search segment by segment.

Mr DD (DansDude),

check the following on CO onepass search please:

Depart Brussels, Belgium (BRU)
Arrive Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH)
Date Sun., Apr. 25, 2010 Time Anytime
Travelers 1

There are plenty direct flights, but still the best option is via lisbon....    .... which means 2 flight of 2:50 + a stopover of 2:50 =  total 8:30 vs a direct of 1:20.

Do i need to add anything...

For Europe CO is not that great, but in the US it is far superior to ANA.
Now if ANA had calender availability and more connection options it would eliminate the need to check CO.

That's interesting though cuz i thought those flights are the small aa planes and they don't have first/business class. On BA.com there's the standard 4500 avios i don't recall anything else
