Those of us in the US can't. :(

R' Weiner holds you can do melacha b'tzina on the second day of Yom Tov, as long as there is absolutely 0 percent chance that anyone will notice. for example, you can't even turn the light in your room on and off, since people can see under the door.

I asked him if I am allowed to email another American-Israeli currently in America, and he told me I can't, because that is like it's "leaving the room". It would stand to reason that posting on DDF falls under the same heading.

That's true. For when you are in Israel. ( I myself hold only 1 day when visiting Israel)

But he's in America.

Are there people who only hold one day in America when they are living in Israel for a few years? Never heard of that.

BUT not necessarily will you be able to do melacha like you would be able to do if you were in Israel.

Ask you LOR.

I never heard of holding one day while visiting, and I'm Sephardic.

Ask you LOR.

I think everyone agrees about the melacha part.

Right, that I know. I just never heard of someone keeping one day in America because they are living in Israel a few years.

Happy to learn something new.

Nope.

I heard of a shita that says you do the minhag of wherever you are at that time. I thought it was sephardim, but I guess not.

It may be sefardim. I wouldn't base a whole idea off of one persons personal minhag/shita.

Let's just say that this is not as cut-and-dry as "are you living there forever or not". This sugya contains a vast quantity of details and variables that most people don't even know about it, which is why everyone must ask their individual rabbi. You can't even rely on what your friend or next door neighbor heard from his rabbi, as every situation is unique.

Then it's fine. Though IME, it's quite frustrating when you can't respond to anything you're reading. :P
