But this isn't for the modem...
It's worse you can't go out and buy a modem to get rid of the fee

I just saw a post on SD that there is an ebay seller selling brand new SB6141 modem for $88.95 with FS, but the seller has been accepting "Make Offers" of an low as $65. He may stop now that this has been posted on a few sites but its worth a shot. If you get it for $68, you would break even in 17 months. Is that worth it? I currently use the SB5101U i got from ebay for $24. Maybe I will wait until I break even on that and then see where the SB6141 prices are then?

Why not just keep what you have? Is it worth it to get a better one?

I won't necessarily get a new one unless I move to a higher internet speed plan.

Just saw on SD that the SB6141 is on sale for $69.84 shipped from rakuten.com (formerly buy.com).

http://www.rakuten.com/prod/q/loc/101/246324250.html

$74.95 @ Electrohut marketplace seller - coupon code:SAVE15 = $59.95 + $9.89 shipping = $69.84

Reps to Favrerox @ SD.

You should have held onto it until they asked you to return it or billed you for it. What are you going to do now if your modem craps out? Or better yet, what will you do when you have a service issue and they try to blame it on your modem. I am holding onto the one TW supplied to me unless they ask for it. I already had my power adapter go bad on the modem I bought from ebay. I was able to activate TWC's modem until the seller shipped me a new power adapter.

Btw if they bring you back to $29.99 they drop the turbo which was included the first year. The best I've gotten them down too with fighting with manager supervisor huca and threatening canceling is 35 with turbo included. Anyone have a diff experience?

I have been paying $29.99/ Month for the Standard plan of 15 down, 1 up.
During the day my connection is fine, but at night/during peak i have trouble watching a youtube vid in HD.

Being that FIOS just became available on my block, i figured i'd leverage that to my advantage.

Today i called FIOS and they didnt really budge or make an effort to get me to join them. They offered $69.99/Month for 2 years with 15Down 5 Up for just internet. Their net/tv/phone was $79.99/month.

Then i called TWC and explained my issue. I said i was on a tight budget and need the problem fixed or will switch to FIOS. The rep offered me $40/month for Turbo (20D/2U) or $50/month for Extreme (30D/5U).

I asked to be put through to cancellations, and after 2 min he offered to upgrade me for free to Turbo for the next 6 months.
He said after 6 months they would start to charge me, so to call before the 6 months is up to see what promo they can do then.

Interestingly Im still using my old Motorola SB5101u Docsis2.0 modem which according to this list is only good for "Lite, Basic and Standard Service Plans" but im getting the correct speeds for the Turbo plan?

I need to buy a new modem in order to return my current one to the phone company so they don't charge me $8/month. I have this (didn't realize it was just a router and not a modem).
Is this a good option?

1. Motorola is a good brand for Modems.
2.  Did you ensure it is supported by your cable company?

I found this (old post) online:
From Rogers:
The modems that are compatible with Rogers High Speed Extreme include:

# Motorola model numbers SB5100, SB5101 and SB5120
# Toshiba model numbers PCX2600 and PCX2500
# Scientific Atlanta model numbers DPX2100 and DPC2100
# RCA model numbers DCM 325 and DCM 425
# Linksys model number BEFCMU10

Any plan that requires a DOC3 modem will have to be acquired through Rogers at the moment.  If you are considering a lower tier then the above router would work.  Before taking my offered list to the store please have that confirmed with Rogers along with the registration procedure to have it activated.

So it seems like it is compatible
