As far as quality, yes.
As far as price, I assume you shopped around.

Yeah, it was a good price, till I realized that I had $10 credit to groupon (I believe from the brooklyn appliance disaster) So I got it for $40-$10 + tax = $32.65

I just took mamash a quick glance and did not see the difference.  I would assume that U maybe stands for USB, but it seems they both have USB.  Is it returnable?  I would assume it is compatible, but better be safe than sorry.

It is returnable. I guess I'll wait and see then.
Thanks for your help

I currently am renting a router from TWC. My bill says that I am being charged $5.99/month for internet modem lease and another $5.95 for home wifi. If I buy a Motorola SBG6580, will I be able to save on both those charges because this model is a modem & WiFi?

Just to make sure that I was clear - only one charge says that I am paying for the lease - the other just says home wifi. see attached pic

Yes, but buying a standalone modem and standalone router is recommended over a combo unit like that. Better performance and you can upgrade more easily as your needs change.

Buying your own modem and router or a combo unit will make you stop getting charged. If I were you, these are the steps I would take:

1) Purchase your own router and your own modem separately.
2) Tell TW you only want their modem and would like a new unit without wifi (they may try to tell you to keep your combo unit with wifi disabled, but try to push them to send a new modem-only unit anyway).
3) Activate their modem with your router and return their combo unit.
4) Call them again (or chat) and activate your modem. Do not return the new modem they gave you until they warn that you will be charged for it.

The reason you want to do this is if you ever have a problem with your connection, they may try to blame it on your modem. If they do, try basic rebooting/troubleshooting with your modem. If that doesn't work, have them temporarily activate their modem (that you didn't return) and see if the issue goes away. If it does, then its time for you to buy a new modem or get it replaced under warranty.

I went to a TWC store to return my device - there was a 1.5 hour wait! So if you are going, beware of the possibility of a long wait

You have the option to have a twc Tech pick it  up from you at home.

Just found out that what I told you about being able to have them pick it up is only if you are returning a modem and cable boxes. otherwise, you have to bring it in.

They install it all for you and charge you a monthly fee. Unless you want to buy your own modem.
Are you using there wifi service ?

Yes, I will be using their wifi and internet service. I set up a date for them to install the internet, what exactly will they do? I will have my own modem.

I would recommend not using their wifi and getting your own router. Their wifi is spoty and not worth the $5 a month.
They'll probably wire the cables into your house and may even help you set up the modem.

I didn't know that wifi = router. I do plan on bringing my own modem and router. Any idea where I can get a good deal for a good pair?

Also, I will not be on the site when they will be coming down. Do I have to be there?
