You quoted my post twice so not sure what's your question.
That is correct. If you have your own modem and phone service through them but your own modem doesn't have a phone jack, you get a modem with a phone jack from them and they won't charge you rental fee. Only pay for rental if you use it for Internet
Sorry. Meant to post your post and the post above.

They give you a modem with a jack to plug your telephone into. If you want your existing jacks to work plug a wire from your modem into any jack and that should make all of them work.

The modem is mine to keep once I cancel the service?

Not if you rent it from them.

What happens is you keep their unit partially active, even after you activate your own modem and router. The one that they supplied you with, that is probably a modem/router/telephone adapter combo. when you activate your own modem and router (I recommend separate units) those portions of TW's equipment will be inactive, but the telephone portion will still be active. You will keep using it and it will not cost you anything as long as you are only using it for telephone. You use your own modem and router for internet. I recommend the SB6183 as a modem and any decent AC router with good ratings on amazon.

I bought this http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wi-Fi-DOCSIS-Router-C3000/dp/B00IF0JAIU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1435072854&sr=8-3&keywords=cable+router+and+modem

as a modem + router and use their modem for telephone.

What's a good modern and router to buy if I'm getting TWC?

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.
