Dan, it's OK, you just didn't like MLE as much as I did; no need to get all hot and bothered about it.

Though perhaps if you'd have spent more than 2 days there, your opinion may be different ;)

I really should've invested in a good travel tripod.
Anything carried at a local BB store that's worth trying out for the trip?

You enjoyed it like that because you went without kids.  Get back to me when you go with a kid.

Hoping by the summer he will be sleeping through the night and can manage without us for a week or so. Though that may be wishful thinking and i'll have to wait a bit longer.

I'm not seeing anything really worthwhile that's available in-store.

Wow, starting to like this thread.

MLE I believe is something than can be done with kids, but there are so many other places to go to with kids that would be more enjoyable and save MLE to go with out them.

The way I look at it, F without a kid is gan aiden and if going with a kid, you need F and might get lucky that you'll enjoy it too.

F is gan eden without kids. It's not the same experience with kids, period.
With a fussy kid it's downright miserable, especially when the stares start coming and people suggest that you give your kid a suppository...

I'm looking to for a Late December, Early January trip. Want to go as far north as possible.

Right now I am either looking around Alaska, multiple cities, or Tromso Norway. Tromso right now is looking hard to get to and much more expensive..

I want to do Northern Lights, Dog sledding, Snow-mobiling, Go up mountains, etc..

Any other suggesstions?

Reasoning?

I have been to Alyeska Resort before, I would go there for two days first, or should i just skip that? Places similar in Fairbanks?

Fairbanks is simply the best base is you're interested in chasing the northern lights. It's considerably further north than Alyeska, plus the northern horizon isn't blocked by mountains the way ANC/Alyeska is.

I would skip Alyeska on a trip like this and focus on getting more north, maybe somewhat up the haul road even.

Is it not worth wasting the extra money on Tromso.

And there are all the activities around Fairbanks? Any good resort recommendations?
