We like big mountains, little streams, fish, and vrbo's.  Last year we went to Montana and had a great time.

SQ is 30k a way in J. Nonstop EWR-HNL (no close in booking fees)

For the dates I'm looking for (Sun 10/18) I only see standard award on UA. I'm not sure I'm ready to shell out 90k per seat. There is some availability via LAX, but it's on a 757 w/o the lie flat seats.

Should I wait for seats to open up on saver awards?

Fly into Seattle and drive down to crater lake with lots of other things in the area. You can do Vancouver/Whistler in the same trip if you have time and don't mind driving.

Best is if you fly into an airport near crater lake it's a 10 hour drive to hit up Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver.

Of course I have one. However i was thinking more on the lines of a bigger city that has stuff in the city to enjoy as well.

Thanks. This is henche's spouse. With more questions.

We want to stay in a rural area with lots of beautiful views, hiking, fishing. We have a baby who currently hates driving so 3 hours is prob the max we'd go anywhere, and maybe just once. edit: henche says we can stay in a place up to 5 hours away from from an airport

If we stay just near Seattle, can we get those beautiful views, wide open spaces, wilderness areas?

Interesting question here. I've yet to do a lengthy, far out ( Asia etc. ) trip. Been to Maui, LA, AC, Niagara, Miami, most of the southeast part of USA ( I should really write up a TR )  Israel, London. How does one choose which trip to do first, there are so many options, Thailand, Hong Kong, Maldives, Bora Bora, Switzerland. The list just goes on and on.

Different trips take different amount if times. So you narrow it down based on the time you have. The time of year should narrow it down further. And the places your left with sometimes comes down to price/award availability. (what's in Nigeria? Definitely nowhere near my long list of places to visit)
