Go to Thailand. You won't be solo for long.

Iceland vs Morocco
« Reply #3841 on: January 05, 2017, 10:14:59 AM »
This is my first time ever posting in the forums!
We are considering somewhere awesome for my 40th birthday to travel without children (somewhere between feb 25-mar 9 of this year.)  The goal was a 4 day trip.  My heart was set on Iceland until my mind started wondering towards Morocco (we would go for a week over Shabbat.)
The way the flights fall for Iceland we would only be able to leave on a sunday night and have to come back Thursday afternoon.

Has anyone traveled to Morocco (w/ tefillim in their bag)? Did they feel safe there? I'm not worried about food. I'd rather eat protein bars all day and still see the world.

They are totally different trips obviously, but I don't know that the opportunity to travel to Morocco will be there in 10 years like it would always be there for Iceland.

What would you do given the time of year and safety issues?

Short 2-3 day getaway this summer w/o kids.

ZRH or YVR?

Nice scenery, bicycle riding, and kosher food.

We did AMS last year and had a blast.

I have been to Morocco. Felt entirely safe, the only people there who knew what a Jew was seemed to respect them. Maybe that's due to the kings liking towards Jews.
I have a trip report started somewhere here and should be finishing it soon hopefully.

Honestly I found ZRH to be overrated, overpriced, and unfriendly.
It's beautiful but would prob do better in YVR.

I want to start planning a week and a half vacation for the end of March/ beginning of April (right before pesach) and I need some ideas. I'm going to be doing this solo so I'm really looking for something that's interesting and worth doing by myself. Ideas?
Bump, anyone have any ideas besides for Thailand?

Loved Morroco. Just don't spend more than a day in Casablanca. You can get kosher food in the major cities but no problem bringing in Pom. meals as well

Thanks for the response. I was gung-ho on Morocco, but even my Israeli family who is actually going for 2 weeks is trying to dissuade me from going there (they are going for a specific reason). Conflicted.
With Morocco I feel it might be now or never, Iceland will hopefully always be ok.

Next Vacation - Ideas

Going to Israel for 10 days with DW. Have an opportunity to go anywhere by myself for 5 days (incl travel) beforehand ending up in Israel (NYC-xxx-tlv). Where should I go and what should my routing be? I am open to using miles from any program. Any ideas?

If flight timing were a little better, id do:

JFK-NRT JAL F (2-3 days in NRT)
NRT-DEL JAL J
DEL-FRA-TLV LH F (10 hours in FRA)

70k AS + 45k UA

The issue is its impossible to time a good DEL connection. 9 hours minimum and I don't think I want to stay a full day there.

If you are set on Japan, Why not make it JFK-HKG-NRT, 3-4 days, then NRT-HKG-TLV (no F, only J), all on CX for 70k.   Alaska will allow the NRT stopover, and if they allow the routing back through HKG, you'd have much better connections with less miles.  For the same miles you could also do this to any CX destination in Asia.  Even if they don't allow the routing, you could one way to NRT on CX for less and then one way from NRT-HKG-TLV for 40-45 AA or CX miles, with only one stop and WAY connection times.

Florida doesn't fit that criteria?
