We ended up with the following itinerary:

Arrive Thursday afternoon
Venice Thursday afternoon-Shabbos
Train to Rome Sunday morning
Rome Sunday afternoon-Tuesday afternoon
Driving through Tuscany Tuesday afternoon-Thursday afternoon
Florence Thursday night
Zurich/Lucerne Friday-Monday
Leave Monday

The reason we ended up planning on going to Zurich is because my wife has family there.  I guess we'll have to save southern Italy for another trip.
Also we were recommended by frequent Italy visitors that driving though Tuscany would be a lot less crowded at the beginning of July that Naples, Pompeii, Capri, etc would be.

Anyone drive through Tuscany? How was?
How are youmaking ROM-ZUR? by car or train or flight?

Why not drive out of Venice and do Florence and Tuscany then go to Rome and fly from there to zrh?
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Hertz has rates from USD$15.20/day or about $125 for 3 days with a one way rental.

Pickup at Rome City Centre - Via Veneto
Drop off at FLR

There was no apparent one way fee.

Anywhere that is cheap... I really have no clue looking here for ideas
dark and gloomy is fine- its winter.
mle, hkt, cnx, bkk, cpt are too much I think
Is there a site I can search flights to multiple dest or good deals on flight+hotel packages?
So far best I found is $80 flight to Bucharest (Skyscanner), with cheap hotels on priceline (seminar trick ;) )
I can also use points though a cheap eastern Europe dest may be cheaper

NooB poster, long time lurker here. Hope this is the right place for this.

I am booked into LAX (Delta glitch, thanks Dan) Thursday Jan 30-Wed Feb 5. I am spending Shabbos in Palm Springs area. For the days after that, I'm looking have a nice few relaxing days in quiet, scenic areas.

1) After Shabbos, is it worth spending a day in Palm Springs area, or should I head straight to the beach?

2) Where is the best, quietest beach-side area to go in the Southern California? I was thinking it would be better to go to San Diego (La Jolla, Coronado, Torey Pines, etc) rather than LA. Is this true? I'm looking to do "budget" (read: cheap) stuff, like walking trails, kayaking, biking.

I'll be renting a car, food isn't part of this equation.

Better luck getting answers in the LA or San Diego master threads.

Besides Paris, Rome, Venice, England-
