I'm having off from work for a long July 4 weekend, but there's rain everywhere! is there anywhere in the tri-state area, or the entire east coast for that matter, where it won't be raining this weekend? or does anyone have any good rain vacation ideas?

New York City is not an option?  I guess you will not be getting any input from Shlomo Zalman/uptown:D

IMO, if you are driving, Boston would be a better option. There are lots of historical sites, tours (check out the duck tours here), museums...  which can be nice to do. Not sure in regards to the hotel situation, i stay by family when i go there.

Of course it does! There's a beautiful zoo - very big. The Smithsonian has something for everyone - Air and Space Museum is nice and has a big 3D theater. American History has very interesting stuff for everyone - and I generally don't like or go to museums. There's a post office museum nearby. Not too far away is the Newseum - it's so good the tickets are good for two days. That was one of the highlights. We took a tour of Washington with aa guy in a van at night that was also very interesting. Kosher food nearby. Minyanim. All Smithsonian museums are free. Even their train system is different. We went numerous times with kids and they had a blast. Check it all out online or AAA.
