Looking for ideas for the summer, we plan on leaving the kids by the parents for 2-3 nights and going somewhere alone.

Looking for somewhere within driving distance from NYC with 'driving distance' defined as anywhere it takes less than a day to get to (6-7 hour drive).

Requirements (by order of priority):
  • Nice hotel bookable with SPG or UR points
  • Something nice to do during the day
  • Access to Kosher food a plus but not a must

Any ideas?
What do you want to do?

Warm dry climate Within 2-3 hours flight from nyc? I'm looking to get away from the snowy muck of a citi, but need low humidity.

Arcadia national park is supposed to be amazing. It's on my to do list. There are only 2 Starwood properties in the state. There are other outdoors activities to do as well as Portland (home of LL Bean) and Bangor, ME which are both supposed to be nice as well. Plus, you're not too far from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

When did you want to go? FL and PR are both not too humid now.

Next few weeks, I checked the Miami area and humidity is high, mco it's a bit better but still not. I guess I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. Need to go to the West coast for dessert climate.

Miami is very comfortable now. Numbers don't always tell the whole story, especially if you don't know how to read them

MCO can be cold now

Looking for somewhere within driving distance from NYC with 'driving distance' defined as anywhere it takes less than a day to get to (6-7 hour drive).

If you are an outdoorsey type, we went to the Equinox Resort in lower Vermont (less than 4 hour drive from Staten Island) and had a great time. they have a nice (and usually empty in summer) indoor pool, golf, outlet shopping and amusement park with alpine slides nearby, tennis on premises, and a huge nature preserve with lots of beautiful hikes. hotel had great service and was very nice, but apparently as an old old hotel some rooms are hit or miss, and even haunted...
here's my review of hotel http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g57312-d100078-r180258932-The_Equinox_Golf_Resort_Spa-Manchester_Vermont.html#REVIEWS

we brought a small toaster oven and a foreman grill and the rooms have fridges (no real kosher options nearby, but u pass albany on the way). Meant to note, this is an SPG cat 5 property (12k points). as a gold member asked and got upgraded to a deluxe 2 queen with a great view of mountains/forest.

Touche, I've heard that before.  :-[
So if the weather tells me 80% humidity I should ignore that? How do I know if it's actually humid or not? And to clarify, I'm not concerned about sweating, rather about kids that the dry air is good for them.

1. Thinking of that but it's so cliche so looking for other ideas first.
2. AFAIK there are no Hyatts or SPGs.
3. Sounds interesting.
4 +1 But did that last year.

The dew point has a lot more to do with how humid it feels than the humidity does.

Acadia is amazing, but it's ~9 hours from NY and there are no SPGs.

Maybe check out the Finger Lakes region, it's quite beautiful in the summer. Not sure about SPG properties, although I'd imagine there may be something in Ithaca.

I've wanted to do the Finger Lakes for a while. It's routinely rated in top 10's on the most scenic drives in the USA. Don't see any SPG hotels nearby though.
TBH-the whole SPG hotel thing is pretty limiting, especially when hotels go for ~$100 in the area

It may be cliche, but it is
1. Beautiful
2. Relaxing
3. Plenty to do
4. Nice hotels
And if you've never been you really should at some point (I know it doesn't compare to Iguzu, but still)
