Anything you particularly want to do, or just lounging around is fine?
works just fine for us.  but a few simple nice attractions or scenery would be nice.

With that in mind, just take a look at Dan's post on BA flights from NY. Can't really go wrong with the Caribbean destinations (though i do not recommend Bermuda). Lately CR has been a destination because of the Andaz and its new lower category.

Personally i did not care for it. It is mostly beaches (which is fine, up to a point) and not much else. They do have some kind of market which is nice to walk through, but not worth any significant time on the island. IIRC, hotel redemption's are limited to the Fairmont.

Fair enough. But should be good for a short weekend, no? (7.5k...)

The rates to get there are great, just not the greatest island to be on. If you haven't been to the other islands, maybe try those first.

Bermuda is the simplest and the closest, though I don't believe there is much in the way of points hotels; at least there wasn't when I last checked.

But you can't beat a ~2 hours flight.

I really need to start planning our winter vacation and would love to get some input, so here goes:

We love exploring new places with an emphasis on nature (e.g. Iguazu Falls, Grand Canyon, etc.) and I'd probably throw in a city or two as well. This vacation is gonna be kid-free so we'd really like to go somewhere exotic and preferably warm.

South Africa was a serious contender, but we can't go there this winter as FWIU it isn't recommended visiting malaria risk areas during pregnancy. The Maldives are tempting, but I'd like a more active vacation.

- We have max 10 days including travel
- Looking to use my AA stash for flights

TIA!

Wow, Cat 4 = 7500 points + $100. Nice. Too bad there's no good January avail on AA or UA.

I trekked the Mt. Everest area (Nepal side) and still found Patagonia beautiful. It's a different experience.
