Does anyone know if the spending on an Amex AU counts towards meeting a threshold on the primary card?

The answer is yes. It ONLY counts towards points/bonuses of primary cardmember.

I just got an email on my account as well as my wife's asking for the socials on our AU's. What is the best way to deal with this to just ignore them? Or will they follow up?

Are you saying +1 for ignoring the email or for amex continuing to follow up? It seems that today was a big day for people getting this email requesting SS#s.

Ditto.  Previously in this thread (and others) several other people have reported getting the e-mail in the past, ignored them, and nothing happened to their cards.

To you knowledge, what is the (maximum) record for AUs for one primary credit card?

Since this is an amex thread, i'll assume you're asking about amex.
I believe the max amount on one account is 99. CMIIW

Wonder if ignoring these requests will start leading to FRs. Hope not.
