smaller menus are classier and maybe better. doesn't change the fact that im used to huge menus- even in fine establishments. also- they were out of so much stuff. the bacon thing, prime rib, a chicken thing (don't remember)... if you're going to have just 10 entrees at least stock those well.

If they're out of stuff you wanted then they should comp the substitution. Did they at least let you know of the $5 charge when you requested the substitution?

Bilking you an extra $5 on a $250+ tab is chazzerei.

and $5 for green beans instead of fries isn't a rip-off??

I was saying how you can't call that $5 a ripoff and then be satisfied with this.

Why? Restaurants are constantly out of what I want. Especially before the 9 nine days when some clear out.

Such a small menu and still out of many items. It's a nice gesture on the restaurants part to forgo the $5, doesn't leave you feeling like they're out there to squeeze you for every last penny.

If you still disagree, perhaps we should agree to disagree :)

Oh. Thought you were trying to somehow say they should comp the main dish sub for what you ordered instead as a second option.

2 of us got the steak. one of us took chili as a main.

Le marais is all about the location/food/price equation. they don't really need to have a special menu bc people will come anyway, and as long as they have "night out" quality food and drinks and keep prices down, the place makes sense (and cents :)). I wouldn't go there as an event of itself but if I am going to the theater district I am going there, as long as they have one type of decent steak available (and its under $40 with side...)

Actually I think Le Marais is one of the only places where it is worthwhile to order a steak out. They are consistently excellent. The key being consistency. They aren't breaking new ground in terms of creativity, but being able to execute hundreds of covers a night with only a minute variation in quality is amazing, especially in the kosher world.

The correct steak to order in Le Marais is Prime Rib for One. No Salad, double fries.

If you're on a budget, steak frites or hanger steak.

stbaum - why are you messing around with the demi poulet?
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

it's my sister. she wanted to "spend her calories" on a cocktail rather than a steak. i'm not sure how steak is worse than chicken and we all tried to get her to order steak but she insisted. i'll pass the message along.
i didn't know you can sub the greens for double fries :( now i'm annoyed. no one ate their greens. not even my chicken loving sister

Went to RC today. Now they no longer have the 29 filet mignon deal, but u can get a burger made with "aged beef fat" and with some sundried tomato dressing on it (I passed but friend enjoyed it). It seemed smaller than their normal burger.
I got a steak n avocado salad for once (trying to show I'm healthy) which had good pieces of steak but the dressing was not really my jam. Also got the salmon tartare (instead of the tuna tartare my regular fave) and it was great and different, 5 lil scoops of spicy salmon with flavoring on top of tiny crisp tortillas with spicy mayo under it. Better than the crispy rice app IMHO, and easier to share for a table than the one lump tuna tartare.

The balsamic ice cream is nasty (though the chunk of chocolate is pretty good) and the apps could be better (miss the warm corn soup)

I've brought my kid to RC before but in his stroller. Good to know, they do have high chairs :). Also, they are keeping the $29 3 course restaurant week menu through the end of August (family outings while kids are home?). Wish amex would extend their $5 off...
