what did you get?
They didn't have lobster so I went with the Prime Rib sandwich. Not a bad price at $21 either.
I just found a new supply of forks!

OU in restaurants hands down better than any other hashgacha.
feel free to attack me. this is from many many people in the restaurant and kashrus industries
Better than KCL? I doubt that

Very unfortunate. He claims he passed along information and the restaurant did intentionally mislead about closing.

Did they say that it's the best hashgacha in terms of chumros? Or in terms of reliability? There's a big difference.
Fwiu the OU is a really reliable hechsher but they don't have the chumros that lots of other hechsheirim do have. Cmiiw.

What good is Chumros if you cant rely on them to keep to them?!?

And that's exactly why so many people like OU. But it's no secret that the OU is very lenient.

Yet others say what good is their reliability if they're so lenient.
But noone says the OU is garbage. All hechsheirim rely on the OU for many things. Still that doesn't mean that the OU is the best hechsher out there.

Most reliable- maybe. The best- probably not.

Can you name 3 actual leniencies that wouldn't be self evident from the certificate? (for example, the OU would say whether something is CY)

I would say in the field of kashrus reliability and "best" go hand in hand.
What good does chumros do if you can't keep them?
To quote rabbi breuer zt"l from the KAJ " If you focus on chumros you lose basic kashrus"

And in restaurants specifically reliability is most important. The games that can be played in restaurants are scary.

The OU requires a mashgiach temidi at all (meat for sure, not sure about dairy) restaurants. Not to say that every single mashgiach is the greatest but I get a feeling they know where to place their sharpshooters.

Bishul Yisrael would be somewhat mitigated in a restaurant vs industrial kasharus. Also, it seems that most agencies rely on OU products along the lines of production anyway. The only specific instance I've heard of where an agency won't rely on an OU ingredient purely for Bishul Yisrael reasons is canned tuna.

Anyway, maybe this should be moved to the Kasharus forum, but the OU requires both a Mashgiach present when a restaurant is open, and send a rep a few times a month. Most of the Heimish ones in NYC barely ever send a rep who works exclusively as a field inspector.

still waiting for you to elaborate on the leniency of the OU in regard to bishul yisroel outside of canned tuna (which some OU restaurants are makpid on anyways)

Also yes if you go like the rema, bishul yisroel in a restaurant is really not too much of an issue. For sefardim- a whole nother story.

Anyhow we should really move this discussion to the kashrus thread.

They have a while booklet of psakim skim regarding bishul yisroel many of which are regarding good service establishments. Just complicate the amount of factory items which are oleh all shulchan mlachim to a restaurant.

again,please be specific.

I was personally at the OU with Rav belsky ztl when a bishul yiaroel shaila cane up and he did not take the lenient side. Obviously that may only be one case but just saying that don't blanket the OU as lenient in bishul yisroel

Who blanketed them as lenient? You are the one who made blanket statements not me.
