What would be a good spot in the city or Brooklyn for good apps and drinks?
Not a typical steakhouse...

Medium
Rare.
Spiced is closed.
In Brooklyn, Bouef & Bun on the lower end and Bison & Bourbon as a more midrange option.
Manhattan, Mocha Burger. Or Mr. Broadway if you are into Miami level music and phantom birthdays just for the heck of it.

I just made a bit more affordable closing dinner for a small deal at Mr. Broadway’s private room. They have decent drinks and apps (though make sure to warn nonjews about fake filet mignon, which came pretty dry).
The music there is loud and annoying but most of it is drowned out in the private room. Only real midtier option in city with some decent privacy.
In theory could ask to rent out lox downtown for dinner for a more interesting option but that’s hard to get to.

with tax/tip? For reference our 10 person meal came out to 1270 all in though I’m sure the impressiveness of the food was lower.

Went to Tabernacle last night to celebrate both DW and my bday. I should note this is my 4th time there and each time it just seems to get better.
Service was excellent!

Food:

We started off with the signature Cesar Salad (which my wife really enjoyed but to me is still just a Cesar salad)

Next we had the King Truffle Salmon Roll- the flavor was excellent. DW said was best sushi roll she ever had.

For meat apps we had:

Kimchi Fried rice- this is my favorite app on the menu. The short rib mixed with the rice and topped with the torched bone marrow is remarkable.

Next we had the Veal Gnocchi- this dish is bursting with flavor.

For mains we split:

Wagyu Short Rib- it is melt in your mouth soft but very heavy. I personally prefer the Tomahawk I’ve had on previous occasions topped with truffle.

Aged Duck Breast- I’m a huge duck fan, and boy is this delicious!

For drinks:

Passion and Pucker- consistently awesome
Strawberry Daiquiri (they claim was a special, was very sweet. DW enjoyed)

Dessert:

Thousand layer cake- this cake is HUGE! It’s like a quarter of a cake and it tastes as good as a dairy chocolate cake in my opinion. They comped us Lemon Drop shots in honor of our birthdays.

Ambiance, service, and food are all top notch.
