Mike's short ribs are not like any other short ribs in the world.
I agree, I've never had anything remotely similar.

However, for me, that's where the amazing ended there.

Right, because no chef ever outdoes their teacher. It's not true for the likes of Gordon Ramsey, and not for the likes shnooks like me who can barely fry an egg, but can take their mother's recipe and improve on it.

You think Gordon Ramsay is better than Marco? (If I understand you correctly)

Well I hated Iceland, but didn't love the gnocchi, so there's a difference.

I get why people like it, but i wouldnt order it again (not a duck guy and the dish tasted too heimish).
my 2 experiences at mike's were both subpar compared to other top restaurants. perhaps i was expecting too much the first time, but the second time?
Sure its better than most kosher restaurants (including the les marais' etc) but at that price point it's just not worth it.

And now it starts...

I was completely underwhelmed at Mikes besides for the short ribs. If I were to go again, I would order a short ribs for myself, one for my wife, and one more to share for dessert.

That's what I postulated yesterday and people attacked me for that.
I definitely didn't meant to attack ,its just my opinion

And i didn't point out my point enough clear , my opinion is that nobo is better food then mikes , but to understand that he was by mikes and that he has that pitch too but he is a class for him self not a competition at all

Truth that food is food , thats why i go again and again to izzys even there service ,ambiance and price is outrageous, but still good food is good food

But when dining out upscale i felt mikes is like to big for me ,they don't have the warm hospitality like nobo and overall i like nobo better then mikes

Like others have said mikes besides his short ribs there is nothing more to it

And i think since they moved to the new location they went a bit downhill , just my opinion,  to understand more i hate big shots in general and of course when dining out and paying top dollar i want more then my short ribs and i feel nobo is the right combination of everything

After these arguments my reservation has been made at Nobo.
Thanks all- also I am in the heights with a car, so Nobo is a 15 min drive on a good day

The short ribs at Nobo were good, but a letdown :(
The food overall was very good and cool new flavors.

Mike's has ruined short ribs for me. Hard to order them anywhere else and not be disappointed.

What else did you order?
Sweetheart ham and potato hash- probably the best thing we had and its very popular- a take on a breakfast hash with veal "ham", fake cheese potatoes and some other veg.
Lamb chops- 4 chops perfectly cooked and delicious, but I didnt love the buckwheat side dish- granted it is so nice when a restaurant actually gives you nice portions of side dishes though.
A very modern dessert- consisting of a coconut creme and meringue, grilled pineapple, a macadamia crumble and lime sauce. was good when all ingredients mixed together.
