What's the latest not to miss items in Reserve Cut for a first timer? Is there a consensus on another fancy place that's better? (I'm not a foody at all, and I only go out once in a blue moon, so I'm not following this thread at all)

Mike's is often better reviewed.

Thanks! I've been to Mike's last time we went out, looking for something different (I've also been to Abigael's, La Marais and Prime Grill)

The Chateaubriand is only served once a week (it is a special) and they run out of it early so make sure to get there early if you want it

Hmmmm, I won't be able to be there before 8:30 tonight (is tonight the once a week?), I'm guessing it's not considered early enough. Any other options?

There’s a chocolate dessert that’s TO DIE FOR. It’s not a single portion so it’s enough to feed 2/3 people. Ask the waiter for the chocolate degustation. You will not regret it!

I’ve had it. Very disappointing. It’s ok but NOTHING like the original Porcini

Here's my short and sweet TR (we didn't eat much :) )

Appetizer: Baby Back Ribs ($28), was delicious. Was a bit on the sweet side, but a nice heat as an aftertaste. Really enjoyed it.
Mains: DW had the Prime Reserve Cut ($68) with a side of Brocolini ($15), my wife is afraid of meat that has and hint of red in it, so we requested well done, was actually a bit burnt, but can't complain. Brocolini was actually better than expected! I had the Prime Rib Special ($81) with the Bernaise Sauce ($3) and a side of Mashed Potatoes ($13), the PR was very good (requested medium, was a bit closer to rare than I liked, but tasted too good to send back :) ), it comes with a ground olive spread, which was great too. Mashed potatoes was quite underwhelming and bland. I also had the Cranberry in Fall cocktail ($17), I'm not much of a cocktail guy, but this was great!

Service was quite impressive.

All in all was $244.97, 20% was $45 so I gave a flat $290.

Was a nice experience other than the fact that the room was a bit too noisy (we decided not to request to be moved) and we were almost uncomfortably close to the couple next to us.

Why go to the most expensive place in the city to order well done meat?

I went for myself more than for my wife :), that's why she got a cheaper cut of meat than me. Teaching my wife to like redder meat is on my to do list :)

Being a well done meat person myself, there's well done and then there's well done. What makes you think only rare meat can taste different in different restaurants? Most chefs get upset when you ask for well done, but that's the way I like it.
