Tier 1: Tabernacle or Barnea.
Tier 2: Mike Bistro, Rothschild TLV, Reserve Cut.
Tier 3: Le Marais, W&L, UNPG, WSG, Talias.
very surprised by the tabernacle love, would love to hear underlying methodology. tab is the best place to get kosher lunch in the city based on value. but top tier?
in any event these options all depend on what u are looking for and on different price points/mood etc.

Did you want some whine with that?

What's recommended at Wall Street Grill?
I eat there way too much (bro is part owner). What kind of foods do you normally like (eg at other restaurants)?

Right, excellent food and drinks, though truly horrendous desserts drops it down for me.

Tier 1: Tabernacle or Barnea.
Tier 2: Mike Bistro, Rothschild TLV, Sen Sakana, Reserve Cut.
Tier 3: Le Marais, W&L, UNPG, WSG (*2020 visit), Talias.

Crap service too
We went at 5pm and told them we had a flight to catch. Got us out nice and fast as requested, but I can't speak about service for a regular dinner.

Did you want some whine with that?

Sorry if my tone was off or something, but I wasn’t whining about the rankings I just wanted to understand rationale. As you quote I have disclosed my relationship with wsg several times, though of course I think :) I’m very impartial in terms of my rankings (I would personally put other tier 1 restaurants above wsg as “higher level/better top-level steak product”, though I think wsg is elevated when weather is good for its outdoor seating/drinks and somewhat lower pricing to the top places).
Sadly, I eat at these restaurants a lot (except sen sakana, never been) and while I think tabernacle is an excellent option at its price point (and have eaten there twice in the last 7 days), I’m not impressed anywhere near mike’s, Barnea and reserve cut in terms of similar dinner pricing but much better ambiance, service and of course food (and I think mikes and rc should be “tier 1” as, if money isn’t an issue, these are great classy dinner places you can bring work people to without complaints (other than bill)).

I was just making a cheap joke...

What you have to remember is for most they've been to these places tops a handful of times so everything is based on that experience.

And these are not Michelin star restaurants so they definitely have bad nights.

So, if RC had a bad night when Dan went or Tab had an amazing night it'll easily change rankings.

Personally I hate Mike's due to going there one time and having a really bad experience.

This 100%

Unfortunately it’s very hard to accurately rate a place without going a few times which is a shame considering the prices they charge.

1000% that’s why I love this thread. Lots of varied experiences really help bc it’s hard to trust some idiot who may be an instagrammed with free dinner saying this is the best place on gkrf. I actually think the annual dansdeals (tm) rankings with some bones on it and methodology and price points would be really valuable, but then Dan/you may face blowback from all the crazy owners.
Btw I had a bad Mike’s experience the first time I went with mrs (I was underwhelmed by the gnocchi/short rib I mistakenly assumed I’d like like everyone else) but since then have had more than a handful of great ones, including hosting a closing dinner with very very rich nonkosher people who all loved it. U should note u had a bad experience last time and try ‘em again…

Yep. We have had plans for something along those lines for about 7 years now, just low down on the priority list.

I'm actually upset at them though, got their fancy 2 person steak for like $250 and it was inedible. Waiter came and asked if we were done... There was 1 bite out of a massive steak. Told him it wasn't edible and we were done, it was charcoaled and awful flavor to boot. He said he'll see what he can do, then brought the check and that's that.

Very uncharacteristic of Mikes. It's the only restaurant in NY where I have a real relationship and feel at home. Their problem is less innovative dishes and subpar design/ambiance but it works well for them and attracts an older, more conservative and more established clientele.
