Why would that be a surprising conclusion?
because most other restaurants just have it as another line item. So they are guaranteed tips anyway.

Going back to Barnea, had a great classic lunch there but now looking to try what’s special. Other than mochajas early review only real info here seems to say the Brussels sprouts are really good, but is that even for those who don’t like classic Brussel sprouts?
Is their short rib gnocci anywhere near mikes (assuming the student learned well)? What is the Barnea Benedict and is it good to share? Found this review but I hate duck so not sure if I can rely on it https://yeahthatskosher.com/2023/05/review-barnea-bistro-brings-an-upscale-kosher-dining-experience-to-nyc/

Barnea review - overall a safe bet, highlights were big highlights but some stuff surprisingly not up to expectations.

extremely expensive ($450 total incl tip for 2), not especially great ambiance (somewhat tight seating/relatively loud), very good service
Food:
Bbq ribs were very weak no real flavor though soft (yippy) very pricy 3/10 creole aoli was bland didn’t add anything to bland bbq flavor. ($45)

Barnea Benedict - best app 9.5/10, kinda like what a goyish high class breakfast would be in a fancy hotel. Sausage type patty on a perfect bun with Greta eggs and lamb bacon/fried crispy onions. Only 3 pieces

Patatas - 6/10 interesting potato mix good change of pace from fries but not really worth the price for an app

Meat carpaccio - very good 8.5/10, quality, clean and cool.

Surprise steak special (with truffles and mushroom, good mashed potato and shallot/onion mix)
Like $92 for a small sliced steak, but very well done good flavors coming together and quality piece of meat (friend wanted medium I would have preferred med rare) 8.5/10 based on cost/value

Desert
Profiteroles ($21) 10/10 perfect coffee ice cream in a fresh cut eclair with chocolate on top, looked great and tasted great (came with 3 so nice serving)

we ordered it medium (I would have ordered medium rare but we shared), meant the actual dish was nicely presented and the different mushroom flavors went well together

Trying to demonstrate to my work (for food stipend) that kosher food costs more.

Anyone done an analysis, specifically NYC or even midtown? A few things I've checked have been as low as 20% higher up to 2.5x higher
Jury Duty: Nothing to do there but chill and write a TR. Kinda like the beach but missing the view and ocean breeze.

Lunch at new mocha lux in midtown. They have some decent burger lunch specials, plus this steak frites deal for $35 (plus tax/tip). Steak felt like an Argentinian chuck steak, several chewy parts to cut out but not terrible. Overall a great value for kosher in midtown Manhattan.

Went out for dinner last night to Mocha Lux. Got 2 apps, 2 burgers & 1 dessert. Really nice bar and upstairs seating as well. Our total after tax and tip was $168. Burgers dont come with fries at this location, ambiance is nicer here.

Search chat I’ve posted a couple of visits though recently their chef left so not sure if things changed. We found their apps and desserts were inventive and great.

Between the following, which would you say is best in terms of food, pricing, ambiance?
Mike's, Reserve Cut, Le Marias, Tabernacle, Sen Sakana.

For me, Barnea and Tabernacle are tier 1 and the rest are a step down.
YMMV. None of them are perfectly consistent except Le Marais.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Why do places post their menus on their website, but without pricing?
