the non kosher status of swordfish
most ppl do
this is from the OU
Quote
Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) does not seem to have scales when one looks at a sample. Some say that it has scales that are embedded to such an extent that it is impossible to remove them without making a hole. Others say that it has kosher scales on parts of its body which fall off during its development. Still others claim that it may have some kosher scales even at the time of harvest. The Orthodox Union traditionally treats swordfish as non-kosher.

I did the 5 (or the 7 - can't remember) and also thought it was amazing.

Any recommendations (ETC Steakhouse)? Or did you all just get the taster menu. Going tonight.

Been a few times. I could give you recommendations but it won't help as they constantly are changing the menu.

We thought the tasting menu was great.

The entree menu has a few staples that are consistently on the menu. If you want a steak, go for the bone in rib steak done medium rare. Its only a few dollars more than the boneless rib steak but significantly larger and tastier.

Thinking about taking the wife in for Mikes tasting menu.. is it worthwhile? Anyone else tried it?

Please excuse any typos and errors in the ingredients etc.

Started with House rolls with a olive oil and herb dip.

Butternut carrot Butternut squash with splash of honey and dash of red Cayenne pepper

Complimentary wine flutes from a friend on another table

Dual(white & pink) beet salad with shaved fennel on a bed of arugula with citrus slices and a vinaigrette drizzle

Black Bass pan seared with skin on top of sweet potato puree on bed of greens with turnips apple on side with a pear mustard sauce

Gnocchi with duck and chicken confit. Portabello mushrooms. Truffle oil. Chive. Surrounded in mulberry sauce (only in the tasting menu)

Smoked chicken. Parsnip puree. Poached apple. Cider sauce?

Braised short rib on mashed potatoes and kale with tomato oil.

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate dessert. Cake, Ice cream, biscotti with crumble and some sea salt.

Hot Apple cider - ordered separately.

I have pictures of most of the dishes, if you let me know how to easily post them, because the system keeps freezing on me when I try. Over all the anticipation of what the next course will be was the real excitement of the night. Mike did pass by and we a nice conversation about food, the menu, his TV debut making Latkes. The food was very good as expected, the price will definitely deter me from  a quick return to the Tasting menu (shame that the cost is so high)
