Background on Hawaiian Islands
You've probably heard of Honolulu. That's the state capital and is located on island of Oahu, the main island with the largest airport. Honolulu hosts the famous Waikiki Beach and if you look at pictures, it looks like Miami. One long beach with a strip of hotels. Most DDFers say to go to one of the other 3 main islands which are less touristy and the hotels are more spread out. In no particular order, the other islands are Maui, Kauai and Hawaii (yes, that's the name of one of the islands. It's also known as The Big Island - confusing because Big Island sounds like it's the "Main Island", but Oahu is the main island). Direct flights from NYC only go to HNL. You can get direct flights from other cities (LAX, SFO, OAK, SJC, SAN, DEN, DFW, PHX, SEA, ORD as examples) to the other islands. Hawaii is amazing - have fun! The main airport codes are:
Oahu: HNL
Maui: OGG
Kauai: LIH
The Big Island: KOA, ITO (2 airports on 2 different sides of the island)

Interisland flights:
Hawaiian is the main interisland carrier and flies HNL, LIH, OGG, KOA, and ITO. They have countless flights each day and are nearly always on time - often even early. Never book a tight connection hoping that the interisland flight will be delayed.

Go and Island Air fly from HNL. Mokulele flies from HNL and KOA, as well as to Kapalua (JHM), Hana (HNM), Molokai (MKK), Lanai (LNY), and Waimea-Kohala (MUE) on the Big Island. Hawaiian's subsidiary Ohana flies HNL to MKK and LNY.

You can also use 5k AA, 6k UA or 7.5k HA miles each way to fly interisland. You can use 15k DL pesos for a RT interisland. United allows a free stopover on a round-trip, so for instance you can fly HNL-LIH-OGG-HNL for just 12K miles.
HA has several tiers, similar to DL, the lowest tier is the only one that's available using partner miles, but with HA miles you can purchase tickets that are otherwise unavailable for additional miles.

@Yehuda's thoughts on deciding between Kauai and Maui:
Here's a list of the main activities on both islands. Decide what interests you, and then you'll know where to go.

Kauai has what many say to be one of the best hikes in the world - Kalalau Trail. Most people will only do the first part, but it's still very highly regarded. The views atop Waimea Canyon are breathtaking, yet Maui also has breathtaking views at Haleakala. Kauai also has some supposedly awesome off-roading on Miloli'i Ridge Road. Sunset at the 12-mile long Polihale Beach is supposed to be quite the sunset. A helicopter tour of Kauai is generally said to be much better than a heli tour of Maui. If the water is calm, Queen's Bath, which is a natural pool in the ocean you can swim in that's protected from the ocean's force by hardened lava, is SICK, but Maui has the same thing by the Olivine Pools. Kayaking down the Wailua River to "Secret Falls" is supposed to be great as well. Of course, the luxurious, tropical amazingness of the Grand Hyatt Kauai is a huge boost for Kauai, except for its beach, but the great Po'ipu Beach is 5 minutes away.

Maui has the Road to Hana, which is an incredible drive through what feels like a rainforest with tons of opportunities to take small hikes to waterfalls and pools. It's just wow wow wow. Sunrise at the top Haleakala is not to be missed. A boat trip to snorkel by Molokini Crater offers what is supposedly some of the best snorkeling visibility in the world. Warren & Annabelle's Magic Show is supposed to be a great night out. The hotels are also magical, perhaps to a lesser degree than GHK, but the beaches by the main hotels are a big plus over GHK's beach. EDIT: The Grand Wailea in Maui is a gorgeous hotel that rivals the GHK (and its lazy river actually moves as opposed to GHK's ). Add in the fact that its beach (Wailea Beach) is swimmable and doesn't require the albeit short drive to Po'ipu Beach that the GHK does, I'm not sure that the GHK should be a reason enough to tip the scales in favor of Kauai over Maui anymore.

So, pick the types of activities you'd want to do and then you'll have your island. I personally liked Maui better mostly because of the Road to Hana, but to be fair, I did miss out on the Kalalau Trail in Kauai due to weather.

I'm not booking my flights to LHR yet, or planning any other extravagant vacations. If this is how I get home from a wedding I was planning to go to anyways, then great. If not, we all know there are plenty of other options.

Your optimism is truly remarkable. ;)

There's plenty of awesome stuff to do on Oahu
The problem is that most people just laze around Waikiki and for that you may as well go to MIA.

Pearl Harbor is nice to visit if you're into history.  I did go there on my first visit to HI, though my chavrusa never forgave me for making him go there on a 48 hour trip.
Mostly you'll just see lots of Japanese people, a film, and oil from the sunken ships.  I probably wouldn't give up a day of snorkeling, kayaking, etc for it unless you're a history buff.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

They Hyatt properties don't seem that great there. Make sense in addition to other factors, go to a different island with a "better" Hyatt?

But, see, that's exactly the point. Doing three islands in as many days isn't "half a loaf," it's no loaf.

Better to experience something the way it was meant to be than nothing the way it was not.
Sceneries don't lie. I guess it's a matter of opinion.
And that doesn't mean not going. It just means not going to three islands in four days
Do you think someone would enjoy four days on the east coast in NYC, DC and Boston?
I beg to differ. The areas you're comparing to are extremely larger, and are very different.
do you mind elaborating about Shabbos?,

Also I'm curious what things you got to do in Koa as the place involves lots of driving
Re. Shabbos? Well, I'm sort of not sure if I should. I think I'll share it if someone inquires about their food plans for Shabbos on the big island...

Re. Koa: Hapuna, Waipio lookout, Mauna Kea, Volcanoes National Park. Yes, it was a lot of driving.
@galitzyaner
Honestly, I'm baffled by just about everything you're saying. Everybody's different, and of course it's possible some people just don't enjoy what HI has to offer, but you'd definitely be in the minority (like small, infinitesimal minority ;)). Why don't you post your full itinerary? Or a list of places you'd rate higher? Maybe we'd get a better idea of where you're coming from. I don't know why we're all so obsessed with explaining why you didn't enjoy it - it's like we have this collective itch to scratch. ;D
Lol! Well you see, if I'd actually rate each place separately, I'd admittedly be rating much of them very high. There's no doubt, I absolutely enjoyed all the nature and scenery that I observed during my small time there. I wrote what I wrote discussing overall.

News to me.

Hawaii's current ad campaign is let Hawaii happen. On your itin it was more like lets try to "do" Hawaii like NYers drive home from work on erev shabbos.

Don't know why, but the image conjured in my mind when I read "four days on the east coast in NYC, DC and Boston" was driving DC and the east coast all the way up to Boston via nyc.
Ain't that land mass of all those states larger than the state of Hawaii?

...but I disagree. I really don't think I toured in that fashion. I didn't get to many sights, but the places I did visit, I took my time.

Ok. I hear ya. But they're just so different in my mind. :)
It's hard to compare dense urban landscapes with much of its attractions hidden inside concrete buildings which you'd have to enter to see, to Hawaii type.

I got your point though.

If anything you can see what's in those building far quicker than an entire island of outdoor activities.

I spent a month in Hawaii on one trip and only scratched the surface.

With many thanks to G-d, I was able to make this (edited) post yesterday afternoon:
DEN-OGG !!!!!
2 pax in J - 35K LH each
When I get to my TR iy"h, perhaps I'll mention all the close calls of when I booked this trip and then cancelled because of date conflicts, work conflicts, etc. While randomly searching on Friday, I just decided to look at DEN and there it was, coach and business availability for partner bookings, and I jumped!

So, let's start with this Q: I know that if you land in HNL, the first thing you do is get on a plane to another island :P, but if you land in OGG, do you just stay there or do you pick another place? The flight lands around 11:30AM which is earlier than had I taken the direct EWR-HNL, so I know I'm already on an island that's great to stay on, but if I did go on to another island, I'd still get there before I would had I landed in HNL originally.

Based on psak I got, we plan to do the Sunday afternoon through Thursday afternoon trip to Hawaii. So that's: an evening, 3 full days, and a short morning. I've almost finished reading Kauai revealed, so that's definitely pushing me towards Kauai, and from the TRs I've read, Kauai sounds more exciting to me than Maui. GHK also looks nicer in pics than Andaz Maui. Thoughts?

Mazel tov!

I would say it makes more sense to stay on Maui, simply based on your limited time available.

I think you should read Maui Revealed as well and only then make the call. Who knows, you may find it more appealing then.

Thanks! No return yet. The goal would be to catch the 1PM flight to LAX. Should be past the dateline issue well before shkia.
