Just got back from Israel, and saw (and used) the signs for the trips to Chevron and Kever Rochel. They have it every Monday and Thursday, and it leaves at 1:30 pm from 11 Yechezkel Street near Kikar Shabbos. Depending on the crowd, that's what your vehicle will be. If more than around 10 people show up, im assuming he will bring a bus, less then that and he will use a tender like by me. Should only 2 people happen to show up for the day, he told me that he will just take you in his private car. The price is 100 shekel per person, and he goes to kever rochel, Me'aras Hamachpela, kever Yishai & Rus, as well as the Jewish Cemetary in Chevron. The smaller the crowd, the easier it is to get a agreement how much time to spend at each place. Im my case, we all decided to skip the cemetary there. His number is 050-417-1979.

We would like to tour Chevron in a few weeks, but unfortunately we are not able to join the Hebron Fund tour. Does anyone have a suggestion for another way to tour Chevron with an armored tour bus?  Does the tour leaving Kikar Shabbos use an armored bus?  How long does it take for an Egged bus to travel from Tachana Merkazit in Yerushalayim to Me'arat HaMachpelah?

I am going to E"Y for a wedding in late Nov. (Myself plus wife and baby.)  I can't get off much work, so I am essentially only going for a long weekend.  One place I would like to squeeze in is Kever Rochel (Chevron only if it doesn't add much time).

I don't think I have time for, nor do I want, a tour I just need to get there and back.  Can I just drive there (I will be renting a car)?  Does the 163 bus go frequently enough these days for it to be fast and convenient?

How much time do I need to budget for the round trip?

(To answer the obvious question, I will be staying in or near Ezras Torah)

Thanks for the help

Kever Rochel is very close to Jerusalem and especially quick and convenient by car.
IIRC it is about a 20 min. drive w/o traffic (e.g. at night), CMIIW.

From Rechov Yechezkel near Kikar Shabbos like 2 blocks down. You have a bus that goes twice a week and is reasonable. They have posters all over advertising

Isn't there an official Egged bus that goes (at least several times) daily?

Apparently they now also allow cars, at least they did last time I was there six months ago.

Yes, but by car is much quicker and more convenient.  It's not like you're really going through any dangerous area, like when the way to Chevron..

Egged bus line 163

Passes on Malchei Yisroel. Cost around 7 shekel

I used to hear ppl say that Boruch Marzel hosts people for Shabbos, though I don't have first hand information.  If you do go to him, should be fun! ;)

I have slept in Yeshiva Shavei Chevron, you might be able to eat there too although I can't vouch for the hashgacha!.

The number 050-417-1979 seems to be disconnected. Does anyone know if this service still exists?
