After I reply to a thread, I get emails every time there is a response until I select "unnotify" from the top of the thread, or from my home page.
And then what happens?
I get emails the next time I post on that thread again. Either way, I still don't enjoy the fact that its an opt-out system and not opt in.
Not sure what's happening by you, but, as mentioned earlier, you can go to your profile and uncheck the notifications.
Update: it does, indeed, not come back. Any way to fix that?
+1 should be profile/Modify profile/notifications and uncheck the 2nd box
It is already unchecked and I'm still getting notifications.
If it is indeed unchecked and you are still being subscribed to new topics you reply to, then its time to call in the expert. Paging @BAHayman
Feature request:Please create an option to subscribe by email to thread responses and have the default set that no emails are sent.
It's called Notify, there's a button at the top and bottom of each thread for it.

Default is that you do not get emails. If you want to, click Notify to subscribe and you will get an email when there's a new comment on the post. To unsubscribe you'd click the Unnotify button (which replaces the Notify button)

That's interesting. What is the email subject line?
"Topic reply: How do you "unsubscribe" from a thread?"
And does the button at the top/bottom of the thread say 'notify' or 'unnotify'?
