Kyrgestan and Uzbekistan
« on: February 11, 2022, 11:40:04 AM »
Trying to put together a trip to these 2 stans for early June.  If anyone has been I would be very interested in how it was. I am interested in hiking in Kyrgestan and spending shabbat in Bishkek. I plan on visiting Samarkand and Bukhara and spending shabbat in Tashkend. 1 week in each country. Anyone interested in going especially if you speak Hebrew or Russian(I don't speak either)?

What's there besides hiking?

Are there still Jewish communities there?

Pretty sure there’s still something in Uzbekistan, but I don’t know how much.

There are Jewish communities in Tashkent and Samarkand. There are also very small communities in Bukhara and Abidjan maybe more.

Bishkek has a community and a shliach.

Dushanbe in Tajikistan has a few Jews and a center that might be hard TH find (was donated by the presidents BIL when they destroyed the shul to build the presidential palace).

Turkmenistan has a few Jews but nothing organized as far as I know.

Kazakhstan has several Shluchim in several cities but I’m not sure if it’s currently possible for foreigners to enter.
