Eating on a fast feels much worse than fasting.

Depends on your point of view :)  There's millions of reform out there who disagree.  ;)

Most have fasted before, at least on YK.

Eating on a fast feels much worse than fasting.

Two Yom Kippurs ago I wasn't allowed to fast, and felt very weird about it, like I was chatting or something. Someone told me a story then (I think it's also printed in All For The Boss ) of an old rebbe whose doctor told him that he shouldn't fast that YK due to his health. Instead of getting depressed, the rebbe jumped out of bed and started dancing. He said that for 80 years I did the ratzon Hashem by fasting, this year I'll do it by eating.

After hearing that I didn't feel so horrible :)

That's one of those myths they fed you in yeshiva.

Actually it would make more sense to be happier with eating when necessary.  Happiness from following Gds commandments and the hanaah from eating the wonderful food He gave us.

so chiakel told me a nice chazal today, being that i was told by my rebbe and dr not to fast chaikel said when you dont do a mitzva bec of a circumstance, its as if you did the mitzva blev shalaim. as he explained, if one is at a bris and theres no tachnun, its as if you said tachnun with all the proper kavanos! (tachnun in the books by the way is very chashuv) in EY they dont do c-sections on sharie tzedek bec its tachnun days, days we need to be asking for specific teshuva (r' eliyashivs psak)) anyways, chainkel was saying, i was not allowed o fast, but its as if i fasted, and i did it correctly! he also mentioned that theres a person who he knows who had to miss kol nidrey and neila in the past for a proper ones (going into the hospital for a baby type) and he had the best yr ever.

sorry no caps, its so hard on a keyboard to use the thumb and type quick for me.

To quote my Israeli neighbor: "There is never a reason for a Charedi Woman to fast. She is always pregnant or nursing, and if not then there is clearly something wrong with her and she is considered a חולה and most definitely doesn't have to fast"

It's very odd, this is the charedi women mindset and many don't fast even when there is no reason not to
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

IIRC This is said from the Alte Bobobover Rebbe, R' Shloma.

In Bobov the women don't fast. IIRC in Brisk even the men don't fast.

the story I heard is that a brisker was married for a months and then there was a fast day.  He came from shachris and started eating.  His wife reminded hi. That it was a fast day so he explained to her that he is not being מיקל in the fast but rather מחמיר in פיקוח נפש .  When he came home for lunch the tales was set for two because his wife was going to join him.  He told her that in brisk we try not to be מחמיר on the women so she should fast :D

Perhaps, but my Doctor told me I had to eat on Tisha Bav, and the memory is very strong.
