the story I heard is that a brisker was married for a months and then there was a fast day. He came from shachris and started eating. His wife reminded hi. That it was a fast day so he explained to her that he is not being מיקל in the fast but rather מחמיר in פיקוח נפש . When he came home for lunch the tales was set for two because his wife was going to join him. He told her that in brisk we try not to be מחמיר on the women so she should fast
That's one of those myths they fed you in yeshiva.
To quote my Israeli neighbor: "There is never a reason for a Charedi Woman to fast. She is always pregnant or nursing, and if not then there is clearly something wrong with her and she is considered a חולה and most definitely doesn't have to fast"
