Denied bonus on SPG card

In the 2-3 years I've been churning cards I've never been denied a bonus due to churning.  It seems I may have to deal with this now.  Any suggestions?  I just figured my luck would hold lol....

I am probably going to call customer service and ask for the bonus.  Has anyone ever had a CSR on the phone who looked at their online correspondence in the secure message center?  I don't want the rep to know I already contacted CS about this.

Ouch. Can you comment on whether you used a new SPG number when you signed up for this account, left it blank, or used an existing SPG number that had previously received the bonus?

Also, I wonder what is meant by a "similar card product in the last 90 days." What does that come to include that is not already included in the 12 months requirement?

I suspect "similar card product" might mean getting two MR point bonuses, for example.  Like Gold and Plat within 90 days.  Though I'm not sure.  It's tough to be sure when they rarely enforce the policies they have in place!

I left the SPG# blank, like I've done every time I applied for the card (at least 6 times already between myself and my wife!).  They have always just automatically linked it to my existing SPG accounts, and until now i always automatically got the bonus.

They are enforcing the 12 month rule now that they put in their T&C.

It's happening to lots of other people who have been churning Amex. You're most likely SOL.

Just had the same thing.  They did tell me thought that I will still get the 20k points after spending 5 grand.  Hope that works.  PS  i left the spg number blank.

This was my wife's card.  She has one other SPG personal card still open which is just a AU on my account.  We closed a SPG card that was in her name about 3 or 4 months ago because they yearly fee came due.  Neither of us have ever had an SPG business acct.

You have to realize that not everyone is dealing with millions of points and 20k points can mean more to some than others

seems ill prob be in the same boat. applied for spg for me and my hub and never noticed any points yet.. (usually i get them right away) and ive been denied once b4 for getting the 10k bonus a loong time ago. ill wait and see what happns... and i also left spg number blank

perhaps start using different spg number and merging after? Not sure how theyre tracking but its worth a shot.

That's exactly my concern.  The first purchase bonus has always posted immediately for me.  Since it didn't this time, I figured I might not get the remaining bonus for spending $5,000 so I asked about the first 10,000 points.

The problem with that is that I would be spending the 5k on other cards if I know that I am not getting the bonus.  Hence the call after the 10k didn't post.
