United Airlines Credit Card
« on: April 27, 2010, 09:48:23 PM »
If I am Silver elite, does it make sense to sign up for United cc and get 30,000 miles rather than signing up for CO cc (since both chase, I assume u can't open both within 6 months?).  Or should I just stick to accumulating as many miles as possible on CO.  I fly mostly domestic (most frequently NYC-DTW and NYC-LAX), though usually take 1 trip to Israel every year flying CO.  thanks.

So with the merger with CO coming, isn't it all the more reason to get this card?

I'm not sure but from what I've read it seems that the onepass program will be merged into MP (I hope not, I hate starnet blocking).
In such a case wouldn't it be better to get the CO credit card now and then get the United in 6+ months when the CO won't be available?
This is all speculation as I don't know how/if the mileage programs will merge and which CC's will be offered in the future.

This whole merger thingy is "dreying my kup" (driving me crazy) because i dont understand: Once they merge, all the miles from unted AND continental will be combined? So for instance if i have 50000 miles united and 50000 continental i will have a total of 100000 miles with the joint carrier (united&continental)?
Or will it still be counted separetly?
Because im interested in the United 50000 CC However i have no miles with them so i'd rather wait for another amazing chase card. (unless of course the miles could be used for CO where i have tons of miles already)

The truth is, I don't think anyone really knows yet. However as we've seen in previous merges of airlines the miles will combine 1:1.
Even if that wasn't the case, 50,000 MP miles will still get you 2 domestic R/T, so even without any other MP miles its still a good deal.
Again, all speculation. But if you want the United CC get it ASAP, it won't be around for long.
