Brother in law asked me for ideas. Here's what he's looking for:

- Less than 6 hrs drive from NYC
- Somewhere where he can rent a house with a private pool
- Minyan required
- Kosher food a bonus
- Not a big city. Wants to feel like he's getting out of the city.
- Nice weather in August, not too hot
- Wants to spend $300/night. Couple with one baby.

I'm not sure such a thing exists (especially at that price), but TIA if anyone has any ideas.

Chabad of [Portland] Maine, verify with them first to make sure.
I think they also have there own rental units there, which makes it an option for shabbos as well

I'm looking as well. Looking for a nice big house with pool for 4 adults and 5 kids. Willing to pay more than $300 a night

Bucks county, PA (with a stop in Philly )- we did this several times
Mystic Seaport, CN (maybe add Newport, RI) - we did this three times
Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown - We did this twice
Niagara Falls and Toronto

The further the place, the fewer times we went.  ;D
We went with kids of all ages and again with the next crop of kids.
If anyone wants me to expand, I can.
Sorry, I missed the interest in my expanding on these trips.

Bucks County has many small towns with a charming look and lowkey things to do. Including antiquing in the summer.
It includes Doylestown, which has the now-called Mercer mile.  It has the Mercer Museum, his tile works factory and his tiled-up house. Interesting.
https://www.washingtoncrossingpark.org/ I don't remember what we did.
If you're nearby, drive through a covered bridgehttps://www.visitbuckscounty.com/things-to-do/covered-bridges/covered-bridge-tour/
It's about a 2 hour drive from Brooklyn.

Mystik, CT
-Mystic Seaport   https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=30170.0
Absolutely a full day can be spent there.  When you enter, read the schedule of shows and activities. In between, go 'house' to 'house' learning about ropemaking, barrel making, etc.  The demonstration of sailors on the boat working together had my kids singing "oreyay" for years.
-https://www.mysticaquarium.org/ Used to be well worth the visit.
-Groton, CT has a submarine you can tour on the way home.  https://ussnautilus.org/

If you have more time, go all the way to Newport, RI.
https://tourosynagogue.org/
Mansions to tour.

Virginia
Colonial Williamsburg https://www.colonialwilliamsburg.org/
We loved it! Same idea as Mystic Seaport and Richmond Restoration in Staten Island, but VERY well done.
Shows, demonstrations. There's also the slave quarters.
A full 2 days.
Jamestown was a the 1st settlement in the new world. https://www.jyfmuseums.org/visit/jamestown-settlement
There are no artifacts left, so everything is a reproduction and can be handled by the tourists.  3 sections: the boats they came on, the settler's fort, the indian village. All worth seeing and learning about. 17th century era.
Yorktown- Revolutionary War Battlefield   https://www.nps.gov/york/index.htm
We never actually went  here, much as my husband wanted to, because we ran out of days.

Looking for a family friendly nice summer vacation. Kids ages ranging from 3-11. Anywhere in the USA. Would like to have some kosher food options, cooler weather and things to for the kids. Bonus if theres a nice Hyatt hotel/resort. Considering San Diego but looking for other ideas.

Looking for a 3-5 day (Sun/Mon/Tues-Thurs) trip. Short flight from NY (LGA/JFK). Looking for next week (should I wait longer to plan :) ).
Don't like veg out vacations (pools/beaches). Not looking for a food tour. Looking for a city type trip.
Solo traveler.
I've previously done:
Atlanta, Charleston, Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, & Washington DC.
TIA.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
