We will be arriving at LGA on Friday and renting a car.  The plan is to drive about an hour in to NJ for a wedding and then return to NYC to do some touristy stuff on Sunday and stay there through Wednesday.

We're using free rental awards from Hertz with some points I had leftover.  The terms state I have to return the car at the same place I picked it up from, in this case LGA.  We're staying in a hotel near Times Square.  I plan on using the $10 Jetsetter deal to get from the hotel to LGA on Wednesday, which just leaves one missing link:  Getting from Hertz@LGA to Times Square on Sunday after I drop the car off.  What are some of the best and most economical ways to do this?  I'm assuming a cab is going to be way too expensive.  Thanks in advance.

If you are doing a one man mission to return the car these guys are pretty good, http://www.nycairporter.com
Also keep your eyes peeled for a Groupon for car service, I just got one for $29.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for!  There's actually two of us (should run us a total of $24+tip if I read it right) but I will be on the lookout for groupons.

I don't think I was clear enough in my OP- my apologies.  We land at LGA and then go straight to Jersey first and then will be in NYC later in the week and will need to drop the car off at LGA on the way to NYC (I don't want/need a car in the city).  I did some more research with Frommer's and found that cabs from LGA -> Times Square area are about $25+tolls+tip, so split by 2 people we may be better off doing that to avoid having to take shared transportation and transfers that the shuttles require...unless Frommer's is off on the cost.

Thanks for the input. I was leaning towards there but I wanted to hear from the DDF'ers first.

Any good suggestions for outdoor Sunday trips over the summer within driving distance to NYC?  Any beach-type places that are secluded enough to not be a problem of mixed swimming?

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

On that topic: Is the Chumus place just off of Times Square any good? Still Open? Still Kosher?
How do you get a group of lawyers to smile for a picture?

Any suggestions for reasonably priced things to see or do in NY - out of the way and unique - not the usual wax museum stuff. What about a really funky hotel with a great spa - without breaking the bank?

What was it called? If you're referring to this place, the kashrus is iffy at best.

I have a free night certificate at any PC hotel. I wanted to go somewhere in NYC, and wanted to know which one is the nicest one in NY (yes, I know that PC does not compare to tother chains, but still, free is free)
