quick review - just had the chance to eat at Jezebel the new kosher restaurant in SoHo.

First off don't go expecting your typical kosher restaurant the look of the place is quite funky with lots style ques taken from restaurant/nightclub decor you get in and around soho. Service was great we were attended to promptly and with cordially, some of the things we wanted to order were not on the menu but that's to be expected as the restaurant isn't officially open yet. Food wise the menu is small 6 appetizers and the same for the entrees. Prices are manageable - entrees ranged from $26-$48 wines are also not crazy don't remember the whole list but  there where 2-3 bottles in the $30-$50 range (although previously reported otherwise the wine is all mevushal) . The food was delicious! between the 3 of us I think we had basically everything they had on the menu it was all incredible I definitly recommend the Cornish hen. There is also a great cocktail menu designed by Nick Mautone there were a number of great drinks. All in all great experience and although not typical "jewish" this with out a doubt takes the kosher restaurant to the next level.

Thanks for the review, sounds like a 10/10 experience, for those who dig funky :)

Thanks, going there next week. Any recommendations from the appetizers and entrees?

So what's the deal with R' Mehlman?
What do kashrus groups hold of him?

You know my opinion on the matter, and it comes from a kashrus group. You can PM for more info

I have two sources that strongly recommended against, I would rather not post their names publicly

I'm from the Upper West Side where R Mehlman is a Rabbi. He is a wonderful and reliable person who does lots of good work to make this world a better place. He is Frum/Yeshivish. He learnt in the Mir, (I think both Mirs). (he's a brother of Mordy Mehlman of Citicom).

No one has denied any of those points.

ETA: not relying on someone's hashgacha is not an attack on them as a person.

Asked a buddy of mine in the OK what's the sitch and got back,
"The one I asked said not a very reliable hashgocha, but very nice guy."

what is a "kashrus group"??

OU, OK, CRC etc.

In case anyone is curious just saw this menu:

http://images.nymag.com/images/2/daily/2012/07/10-jezebel-menu-2.pdf

Looks delish, would love to try their Tartare + Terrs chips :D

On a side note, their entrees look small... $38 for a 6oz steak?
