Author Topic: NYC Master Thread (Read 522266 times)

I could use some help figuring out where in NYC to stay with my wife for a night and a day (leaving kids by my parents). We will probably want to stay somewhat centralized in terms of location because we're seeing an exhibit just south of Central Park and visiting friends who live near the north end of the park.

I want to stay at a top tier hotel if possible. We don't travel all that much but I want a hotel that will:
a) impress my wife
b) look great in pictures (to impress friends of course! I'm not ashamed of my motives!)
c) be exceptionally comfortable and classy

The only hotel I've really looked into is the St. Regis, which looks like the best fit for us in the Starwood program. I had problems with both the Citi TY hotel search and Amex MR hotel search today so I couldn't really compare the St Regis to whatever they offer. Any ideas if I have other options through any of my programs?

I have the following account balances:

SPG: Over 160k (and Gold status, for what it's worth)
Amex MR: 75k (and another 30k on wife's account)
Citi TY: 53k
Hilton HHonors: 44k
Also several 100k on United and about 30k on Delta, but I assume those are going to be awful transfer rates for booking hotels.

What (very fancy, classy) hotels in NYC have you stayed at and what did you love about them? Are some top level hotels clearly better deals than others when using points?

IMHO, you stay at the St. Regis for the name. Not so impressive once you are there.

Anyone know if there is a gourmet kosher chocolate/candy shop in Manhattan? I'd assume there is but for all I know every one of them might be in Brooklyn.

There is one on 92nd and Amsterdam called "Chocolate works"

K Chocolatier by Diane Kron on 19 East 69th street in Manhattan. Dunno what the hechsher is though. their number is 212-861-2111

Apparently there's a difference between "K CHOCOLATIER" in manhattan and Kron in Great Neck though it might be the same owner.

Well I know the one in L.A is kosher but has no hechsher maybe its the same here.

Chocolate Works looks delicious but it's way uptown

I'm staying midtown and spending most of my time south of 55th st. Might still check it out but is there no option downtown?

Having no hechscher is about as good as not being kosher unless it's owned by somebody who really knows halacha. Even then it's not something I'd buy without serious research.

Chocolate works has a good hechsher. 212-799-3630

I think they are the only kosher candy/choc store that i know of. its a 10 min subway ride from midtown.
