love mikes bistro - you can get a chefs tasting idk what its called exactly but its basically all his best dishes in one meal paired with wines -omg fills you for the week

Taster meal its $100 which is actually relatively cheap compared to other restaurants.

Go to Abigeils on Broadway and make sure to order their cocktails. i've been to mike's bistro and was not very happy with the food.

I was at the United Nations visitors center last Friday. For anyone thinking of going, they have a guided tour every 15 minutes where they take you around the main building and show different exhibits about what the UN did in the past and does today. They show gifts presented to the UN from countries around the world, and of course they bring you into the General Assembly room if it's open (it wasnt when we were there, so they gave us a 20% discount), and the Security Councel room when not in use. Nothing too amazing really unless you're trying to cover all museums and cultural institutions in NYC (which I am) or want to see the building where world politics take place.

(Make no mistake, the UN is very biased and hostile to Israel and I'm not suggesting anyone go visit this place (they have a whole exhibit on the Palestine problems...) . Certainly don't go with your little kids. If you're going to go because you're interested or whatever, go with an open mind. Be ready to hear some things you don't want to, and realize that at the same time that the UN is hostile to Israel, it works to bring good to many other places in the world (end war, stop genocide, food and medicine for developing countries etc...))

I think the most interesting part is the Post Office downstairs. The UN is owned by all 193 countries and the land is UN territory, not part of the US. They have their own postal system and it's cute to send some postcards to friends (and yourself) from outside US territory. And for those of us collecting stamps in our passports for each country we visit, if you bring your passport with you, the post office will stamp your passport with the UN territory stamp (too bad I didn't know about it beforehand).
